USD 483 currently offers a $7,200 fringe benefit for health insurance. This fringe will increase to $7,300 for the 25-26 school year. Candidates must enroll in a district insurance plan to receive the fringe benefit. 10 days of sick leave are provided. Sick days accumulate to a maximum of 75. When certified employees gain 75 days, the district buys back any days over 75 at $35 per day. The district offers a sick leave bank for certified employees. 1 personal day is provided each year. 4 emergency days are provided each year. A current Kansas license is required.

USD 483 - Southwestern Heights is a consolidated Jr/Sr High School comprised of students from the communities of Kismet, Plains and the Hayne area. Two elementary schools are also located in the district. One in Kismet; pre-K-2nd grades, the other in Plains; 3-5th grades. Our district enrollment is 570 students. The school district encompasses 541 square miles. 

USD #483 has an outstanding reputation and a strong tradition of excellence. Southwestern Heights Jr/Sr High serves 304 students grades 6-12. Currently, there are 135 students in the junior high and 168 students in the high school. The Jr/Sr High School is located on Highway 54 between Kismet and Plains, 17 miles east of Liberal.

Southwestern Heights High School is a 3A KSHSAA school and a proud member of the Hi-Plains League.  Average class size is 14 students. Our district is also a member of the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center, located in Sublette.
