TITLE: Coordinator for Career and Technical Education Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. College- Associate- or Associate of Applied Science Degree preferred.  

  1. Convey understanding of the philosophy- purpose and function of Career and Technical Education programs.
  2. Express good verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Communicate tactfully and courteously with district personnel and the general public.
  4. Demonstrate a strong commitment to good customer service.
  5. Maintain appropriate professional appearance. 
  6. Work independently and with a team.
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of district documents- business conversations- and student and personnel information.
  8. Handle multiple tasks at one time.
  9. Maintain a positive and productive attitude while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  10. Possess and demonstrate time management skills particularly in working with a flexible work schedule.
  11. Have experience using Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.
  12. Convey knowledge of the operation of general office equipment- i.e. copiers- fax machines- etc.
  13. Knowledge of and experience with bookkeeping and computerized accounting procedures with the ability to maintain records and prepare reports from such records.
  14. Research skills using the Internet and traditional methods. 
  15. Possess valid driver’s license for the State of Kansas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  2. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.  Occurs occasionally and requires the use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  3. Fingering: Picking- pinching- typing/keyboarding or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handing something to a person.
  4. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  5. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  6. Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  7. Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists- hands- and/or fingers.
  8. Sedentary work: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift- carry- push- pull or otherwise move objects- including the human body. 
  9. Visual Acuity- Administrative: Work deals with preparing and analyzing data and figures- accounting- computer terminal extensive reading- and operation of machines at distances close to the eyes.
  10. Walking:  Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks- particularly for long distances and periods of time.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. CTE Programs: Coordinate and assist in the management of CTE programs as directed by the high school principal including but not limited to adding and deleting programs- changing names of programs to align with state requirements; assist in the creation of new CTE programs as directed by the high school principal; attend meetings to stay current on changes in CTE regulations and funding; submit appropriate paperwork to comply with state regulations and consortium rules; serve as liaison with Greenbush Consortium as needed; create articulation agreements with post-secondary schools.
  2. Career and Technical Education (CaTE) Reports:  Complete follow-up and end-of-year CaTE reports.
  1.   Futures Day:  Schedule business- industry- and post-secondary visits for high school students; organize CTE teachers and CORE teacher partnerships to provide students an opportunity to learn about high school CTE program offerings and career opportunities; coordinate transportation for off campus visits; solicit and acquire local financial support from business and industry; schedule speakers and business leaders for on-site visits with students; arrange participants’ meals and breaks when applicable.
  1. Mentoring Program:  Recruit and train mentors; assign students to mentors; create and coordinate monthly mentor activities; locate- organize- and distribute materials to be used for monthly mentoring sessions; arrange for substitute mentors as needed; provide for appropriate recognition for mentor volunteers; provide due diligence regarding background checks for mentors; coordinate regular meetings of the mentor program leadership cadre; participate in the Kansas Mentor Training program; assist- when viable- other school districts or organizations with information regarding Mentoring Program development.
  2. Technical Assurances:  Confirm that teachers have course competencies- articulation agreements- course requirements- and all other CTE paperwork requirements on file with the high school office and state department of education; assist with any CTE program audits.   
  3. Other activities as might be assigned or requested by administration.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the BOE policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.  Evaluation performed by the High School Principal.

USD 320 is the sponsoring district for the Wamego Special Services Cooperative, which serves the needs of our students as well as those in two neighboring school districts.  There are approximately 185 certified staff and 265 classified staff.

The Wamego Teachers Association actively works with the USD 320 Board of Education to help create working conditions that benefit our students, teachers, and the school district in general. A strong, positive relationship has been developed through years of honest and empathetic dialogue used in the Interest Based Bargaining process.

 

Located at the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and US Highway 24, just 13 miles east of Manhattan and 40 miles west of Topeka, Wamego offers friendly small town living with quick access to city convenience. A multitude of recreational options are available in Wamego; Wamego City Park which includes train rides for children, a playground, fishing pond, and public tennis, basketball and pickleball courts; an Aquatic Center with both indoor and outdoor pools as well as a spray park; a recreation complex which includes four baseball/softball diamonds, two soccer fields, six tennis courts, a walking trail, and an active recreation program for youth and adults.
