To assist teachers, administrators, and parents in better understanding the psychological and educational needs of children for the purpose of facilitating learning and total adjustment.  

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  1. Meets certification requirements as established by the State Department of Education.  
  2. Approved by the Special Education Section of the State Department.  
  3. Degree from an accredited college or university.  
  4. All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Services  

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  1. Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic procedures and helps identify all types of exceptional children.  
  2. Interprets diagnoses to school personnel, other concerned professionals, and parents.  
  3. Makes recommendations on ways to facilitate a students learning and total adjustment.  
  4. Participates in the decision-making process and placement of all types of exceptional children.  
  5. Consults with parents, staff members, and mental health professionals.  
  6. May conduct short term individual or group therapy for students.  
  7. Serves as a resource person in the areas of learning and behavioral psychology. 
  8. Acts as liaison between the school and the various community/state mental health agencies.  
  9. Assist administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians in understanding and adhering to legislation and regulations relevant to general and special education services.  
  10. Maintains clinical file(s) on all referred students.  
  11. Other duties as assigned by administration.  

FLSA STATUS: Exempt. 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

  3. For the 2025-2026 school year, USD 383 will pay the full health insurance premium for employees (Option C and Option D) and short-term disability insurance.

  5. 11 Paid Sick Leave days and 2 Personal days.   

RETIREMENT:  

  • USD 383 makes monthly contributions to a 403(b)-retirement account for all certified and eligible employees.   
  • KPERS (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System): 6% monthly staff contribution. Vested after five years.   

TECHNOLOGY:    

  • District provided devices - iPad, laptop and/or desktop for certified staff.
