Job Brief: - The Junior Varsity (JV) Head Softball Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing the JV softball program in alignment with the schools athletic philosophy and varsity program goals. This position focuses on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and preparing student-athletes for competition at higher levels while fostering a positive, respectful, and motivating environment.
Location: Manhattan High School. Qualifications: - High School Diploma/GED.
- Previous experience as a coach.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must meet all district and state coaching certification requirements (e.g., CPR, First Aid).
- All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.
Reports To: Varsity Head Coach/Athletic Director. Salary: - This position is paid through a stipend.
Hours Per Day: - This position is employed from February to May.
- Hours will vary during employment.
Benefits: - This position is not eligible for benefits.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Job Duties: - Should be thoroughly familiar with the responsibility factors of the head coach, athletic director, and central administration and recognize their responsibility to each. Should be supportive of the athletic director, school, and program.
- Teach fundamental and advanced softball skills, strategies, and rules of the game.
- Should work closely with the other coaches and carry out any and all assignments submitted by the varsity coach or athletic director.
- Attends all JV varsity practice sessions unless otherwise assigned by the athletic director or varity head coach.
- Evaluate player performance, provide constructive feedback, and make decisions regarding team selection and playing time.
- Assumes responsibility for team organization, practices, games, etc., at assigned team level.
- Shall be aware of and adhere to rules and regulations of KSHSAA.
- Attends meetings as scheduled by athletic director if so designated.
- Responsible for care and use of physical facilities and supervision of his/her players or participants during use of such facilities. This includes both home and away contests.
- Assumes his/her full share of responsibility and accountability for student supervision, development of schedules, equipment requests, cleaning. storing, securing, and repairing equipment.
- Abides by the general policy rules and regulations of USD 383.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
