Business Teacher: 2026-2027 School Year

The Business Teacher provides instruction that builds students skills across key areas of the business pathway, including financial literacy, career and workplace readiness, and other related content areas. This may include courses such as budgeting and personal finance, business fundamentals, entrepreneurship, or other pathway-aligned subjects like broadcast media and digital communications. The teacher designs engaging, real-world learning experiences that help students become responsible, informed consumers, workers, and citizens while preparing them for postsecondary opportunities within the business, media, and financial sectors.

APPLICATION CONSIDERATIONS: This posting represents two vacancies that together will cover broadcast media, financial literacy, and business pathway courses. The specific division of these content areas will be determined at the time of hire. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Teaching certificate: Bachelors degree preferred with emphasis on personal finance education of the ability to apply for and obtain a CTE specialized certificate. Career and Technical Education (CTE) Specialized Certificate.
• Teaching experience in technical education at a secondary or post-secondary institution preferred. Supervisory and/or training experience in the industry may be considered in lieu of teaching experience.
• Industry certification (ASE, etc.) preferred.
• All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Work with the CTE coordinator and other CTE instructors to help promote Career and Technical Education and continue to build and update state approved pathways to include maintaining and collecting student data, holding and attending advisory committee meetings, and assisting with career technical student organization.
2. Develop and deliver lessons aligned with state standards in personal finance, economics, and consumer education.
3. Evaluates student progress on a continued basis and reports at designated times to provide meaningful feedback to support growth.
4. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
5. Teach topics such as budgeting, banking, credit, taxes, insurance, investing, and career planning.
6. Use practical, hands-on activities to help students apply financial concepts to everyday life.
7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitation of location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual of student groups involved.
8. Integrate technology, current events, and real-world financial tools into classroom instruction.
9. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
10. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and bevavioral progress of all assigned students.
11. Guides students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior.
12. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
13. Teaches all students from a culturally inclusive perspective and establishes an expectation that classroom language and behaviors value differences.
14. Work collaboratively with industry representatives to ensure that current skills and techniques are integrated into classroom and lab instruction.
15. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative guidelines.
16. Complete required duties to maintain state approved CTE pathways, including advisory committee meetings, student data, pathway maintenance, and inventory.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

ABOUT MANHATTAN HIGH SCHOOL: Manhattan High School is a 9th through 12th grade high school. The estimated enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year is 2,050 students. School begins at 7:40 a.m. and releases at 2:50 p.m. Teachers teach 5 of 7 class periods with an additional Advisory period one day a week. The 2 open periods in a teacher's schedule are dedicated to an hour of planning and an hour dedicated to professional learning time. MHS utilizes a modified block schedule that consists of periods 1-7 being taught Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are block schedule days. Wednesday consists of 1st period, Advisory, 2nd period, and 3rd period. Thursday's schedule consists of 4th through 7th periods. Every teacher is provided with a MacBook Air and an iPad. All classrooms are equipped with a short-throw projector and an Apple TV. Every student is provided with an iPad. USD 383 uses Infinite Campus for our student information system, CANVAS for our LMS (learning management system) and Xello for our individual plan of study system. We teach a wide variety of electives, Career and Technical Education, concurrent, dual credit, and Advanced Placement classes. We have many official and unofficial career pathways and athletic and activity opportunities with incredible student involvement. We have high expectations for all students and staff. We are always working on ways to meet the needs of our students, develop positive relationships, and improve how we teach the things that we are passionate about.
