JOB BRIEF:

  • To lead and direct students toward their educational objective of satisfactory completion of diploma, associate degree, or customized training in an automotive career and subsequent gainful employment.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. The applicant must work with the CTE coordinator and other CTE instructors to help promote Career and Technical Education and continue to build and update state approved pathways to include maintaining and collecting student data, holding and attending advisory committee meetings, and assisting with career technical student organization.
  2. Work consistently to instill in students the technical and academic competencies, and employment behavior expected within the automotive industry according to state competencies.
  3. Primary emphasis of instruction to include the following automotive areas: Introduction to Auto service including suspension and steering; transmissions and transaxles; electrical systems; drive trains and axles; brakes; HVAC, engine performance, and engine repair.
  4. Work effectively with the industry representatives to ensure that current skills and techniques are proved in the classroom and lab settings.
  5. Effectively manage the departmental budget and work closely with CTE coordinators to ensure that all assets, materials, supplies, etc. are properly managed. Assess equipment and tools needed for new and upcoming industry technology.
  6. Prepare for class and lab instruction and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitation of location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual of student groups involved.
  8. Develop and maintain a classroom and lab environment conducive to effective learning with the limits of the resources provided.
  9. Develop and enforce appropriate rules and expectations of students in the classroom and lab settings which follow in compliance with USD 383, which result in a safe and effective learning environment.
  10. Effectively administer assessment of student learning and technical objectives.
  11. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative guidelines.
  12. Advise students, in cooperation with counselors, administrators, etc. to ensure effective services are identified that will assist student in obtaining objective.
  13. Ensure that safe and reasonable precautions are implemented to protect students, equipment, and facilities from harm.
  14. Attend and participate in staff meetings and appropriate in-service, and trainings.
  15. Complete required duties to maintain state approved CTE pathway, including advisory committee meetings, student data, pathway maintenance, and inventory.
  16. Preform other duties as assigned by administration.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

About Manhattan High School:

Manhattan High School is a 9th through 12th grade high school. We have just completed a major renovation and expansion of our Manhattan High School Campus and will merge all four grade levels together in the fall of 2023. Our current 9-12 enrollment is 1,950 students. We divide and serve our student population into four teams; each assigned a grade level, and the team stays with the same group all four years. A team consists of an assistant principal, two counselors, and a secretary. Manhattan High School administration has a dedicated team focus. We work together to serve our MHS community and stakeholders in doing what is best for students and the educators that support them. Our teachers teach 5 of 7 class periods with an additional Advisory period one day a week. The 2 of 7 in a teacher's schedule is dedicated to a plan hour and an hour dedicated to professional learning. We have a modified block schedule that consists of 1-7 periods being taught Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are on a block schedule. Wednesday consists of 1st period, Advisory, 2nd period, and 3rd period. Thursday's schedule consists of 4th through 7th periods. Every certified staff member is provided with a MacBook Air and an iPad. Almost every classroom has a short throw projector and an Apple TV. Every student is provided with an iPad. We use Infinite Campus for our SIS (student information system), CANVAS for our LMS (learning management system), Xello for our individual plan of study system and SmartPass for our student pass system. We teach a wide variety of electives, Career and Technical Education, concurrent, dual credit, and Advanced Placement classes. We have many official and unofficial career pathways and athletic and activity opportunities with high student involvement. We have high expectations for our students and ourselves. We are always working on ways to meet the needs of our students, develop positive relationships, and improve how we teach. To do this, we us MTSS strategies and interventions.  We expect everyone who works at Manhattan High School to care about students, work hard, reflect, and be willing to grow.

  • USD 383 makes monthly contributions to a 403(b)-retirement account for all certified and eligible employees.
  • KPERS (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System): 6% monthly staff contribution. Vested after five years.

  • District provided devices - iPad, laptop and/or desktop for certified staff.
