K-12 Social WorkerUdall USD 463 • www.usd463.org TITLE: Social Worker Reports to: Building Principals Supervises: Assigned students/staff members School social workers specialize in working with school-aged children, their parents, teachers, and school administrators to help students cope with a wide range of issues and perform well academically. These professionals typically work full-time in an office within a school but may need to travel to serve other schools in the area. Qualifications: Bachelors degree with appropriate Kansas licensure Responsibilities of a School Social Worker: School social workers aim to help students grow socially and academically. Depending on the student, they may do this by helping students resolve issues like bullying, school absences, and other conflicts. They may also help students cope with disabilities, behavior management, and mental health issues. Other job duties for a school social worker may include: -Counsel students -Create individualized plans to help students improve -Report any child abuse or neglect and follows up on suspected neglect and/or child abuse cases -Educate parents on available resources to help their child -Provide teacher training (i.e. in behavior management) -Attend educational planning meetings -Advocate for students, families, and resources -Works with families of children who have reoccurring behavioral problems to provide resources to support students who are referred for serious behavior case management issues -Provide parent education workshops, when possible, for parents of children referred -Keep informed of local, state, and federal legislation relating to the welfare of school age children -Maintains close contact and acts as liaison with community and other agencies involved in the welfare of children -Other duties as assigned.
