Purpose:

To promote student success- provide preventive services- and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic- career and personal/social development for all students. 

To provide advice and consultation to overcome personal- emotional- familial- or social issues to maximize the students` learning experience.

According to certified salary schedule

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
  2. Successful prior teaching or social work experience preferred
  3. State of Kansas teacher license with Counselor endorsement or license with Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB)
  4. Health and tuberculosis certificate on file in the district office (after an employment offer is made).
  5. Valid driver’s license. 
  6. Desire to continue career improvement. 

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide a safe- attractive- comfortable- and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
  2. Communicate with members of the school district and community.
  3. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  4. Operate equipment and machinery as required. 
  5. Maintain confidentiality regarding school records and school operations.
  6. Support the philosophy and mission of USD 348.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing. 
  2. Requires physical exertion to manually move- lift- carry- pull- or push heavy objects or materials. 
  3. Occasional stooping- bending- and reaching. 
  4. Requires some travel. 
  5. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments. 
  6. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round. 

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Provide personal/social/emotional and educational services to individuals and groups of students.
  2. Assists students in evaluating students` aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data and works with students in developing education and occupation plans consistent with such evaluation.
  3. Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student`s abilities and needs- including students with special needs- and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.
  4. Coordinates with outside agencies- organizations and institutions- including state and federal authorities as needed.
  5. Assists with the registration and orientation of students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities.
  6. Serves as a ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth- self-understanding- behavioral management- and maturity.
  7. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars- workshops- or professional meetings- or by conducting research- and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.
  8. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers- as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  9. Provides for the highest levels of confidentiality and ensures maintenance of a safe- private environment for students.
  10. Encourages parental involvement in students` education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  11. Assists in the orientation of new teachers- and provides in-service training in guidance.
  12. Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  13. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other district office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Baldwin City Unified School District 348 is comprised of two elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school serving approximately 1420 area students.

The two elementary schools serve pre-K through grade 5; Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center and Primary Center are within the city limits. Also located within the city limits are the Baldwin Junior High School, serving grades 6-8, and Baldwin High School which houses grades 9-12. Both schools sit adjacent from one another.
