QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed in the State of Kansas
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
JOB GOAL: To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by identification of educational needs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices.
- Administers tests and determines eligibility for all exceptional and new students.
- Helps identify within the school all types of exceptional children.
- Develops case records on all referred students.
- Recommends corrective procedures.
- Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for children whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification or counseling.
- Confers with teachers and parents.
- Consults on special educational needs of children.
- Attends case conferences on placement of individual students.
- Interprets the school psychological services to teachers and parents.
- Prepares and submits required reports.
- Cooperates with personnel of community mental health and social welfare agencies and juvenile court.
- Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings.
- Conducts appropriate literature review and assists with program evaluation.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
