QUALIFICATIONS:   

Bachelor's degree with appropriate Kansas licensure 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services

SUPERVISES: Assigned students/staff members 

JOB GOAL: Assists the classroom teacher in meeting the reading and math needs of all students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Screens students to establish proper reading and math level placement. 

Assists classroom teachers in selection of students needing special reading and math instruction. 

Provides diagnostic, prescriptive and evaluative services for identified students. 

Provides individual and small group instruction for identified students. 

Assists with the administration of state reading and math assessments. 

Confers with the principal on the needs of the reading and math program. 

Communicates with parents and classroom teachers through a variety of means.

Acts as a resource teacher in reading and math to regular classroom teachers by assisting them in organizing their reading and math program, selecting materials, suggesting teaching techniques and relating their instructional program to the special needs of students. 

Gives demonstration lessons in the teaching of reading and math as requested or required. 

Assists in the establishment and development of school and district reading and math curriculum. 

Uses scientific based research and evidence based practices for teaching reading and math

Other duties as assigned. 

Changes in state guidelines may require additional training

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
