Title: Assistant Principal - Newton High School
Qualifications: - Licensed in the State of Kansas.
- Minimum of masters degree in educational leadership.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education finds appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Principal Supervises: Such staff members as the principal designates. Job Summary: To assist the principal in providing school wide leadership and learn the role of the principal. Terms of Employment: Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel. Performance Responsibilities: - Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
- Serves as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
- Supervises/evaluates classified and licensed staff annually as assigned by the principal.
- Works with approximately 350 students (and their parents) for disciplinary, attendance, and other issues as needed.
- Assists in maintaining a safe school environment including but not limited to conducting safety inspections, safety drill practice activities and (proactive) supervision.
- Assists the principal in the coordination of school-wide efforts in compliance with Kansas Assessments, KESA, and federal ESSA mandates.
- Assists the principal with organizing and supervising various student activity programs both during school and at extracurricular activities.
- Assists principal as needed in working with staff in all curricular areas and departments as assigned.
- Assists principal as needed with supervision and/or purchases of supplies, textbooks, equipment, inventories, maintaining records, and other school business.
- Assumes responsibility for coordinating support services, enrollment activities, transition activities, graduation logistics and senior events, parent teacher conferences, open house, school newsletter, orientation, and other student/parent activities as assigned.
- Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance clerk, community corrections, and the Harvey County Attorneys office.
- Assists with student management issues and in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, dealing with special cases as necessary.
- Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
- Strives to stay current and maintain working knowledge regarding special education law, school law, KSHSAA activity guidelines, all curricular areas, and career and technical education.
- Represents NHS and USD 373 to students, parents, patrons, and visitors in a variety of venues, activities, and events.
- Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal directs.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.

- Enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
- Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary.
- Assists in conducting meetings of staff as necessary.
- Supervises the student activity program.
- Assists in scheduling classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
- Makes recommendations concerning the schools budgetary requests and monitors expenditure of funds.
- Is able to work with students, teachers, parents, law enforcement, media and community members in a variety of situations.
- Is knowledgeable of a wide range of curricular and extracurricular areas.
- Is knowledgeable of school law.
- Is able to transition quickly in working with a variety of people and situations.
