Wichita Montessori School is seeking an experienced elementary teacher to join us in the 2024-2025 school year. This position emphasizes teaching phonics, reading, spelling, grammar, cultural subjects, science, and math. Our small school has a very supportive staff and a wonderful community of families. At WMS, we offer a rigorous learning platform. Students use a combination of traditional Montessori materials, in addition to traditional curriculum and supplemental material. Our hybrid approach has a proven record of academic excellence.

We are looking for a reliable, creative, and enthusiastic teacher committed to providing a well-rounded education. They will be a part of a small but strong non-profit organization, with a dedicated staff, and a long tradition of dedicated families. The teacher will work collaboratively with other lead teachers, assistant teachers, and administration.

An ideal candidate is someone who is a lifelong learner who inspires a love of learning in their students; should be a proponent and practitioner of peaceful methods of communication and conflict resolution; and should embrace patience, creativity, kindness, respect, and independence in themselves and others.

We do not currently have health insurance benefits. We do offer paid sick and personal days and have a 401(k) program.

Teacher Responsibilities:

  1. Keeping students safe physically, emotionally, and mentally while they attend school.
  2. Teaching assigned content by providing direct instruction with clear objectives for all lesson plans.
  3. Developing lessons and individual learning activities that cater to the social, physical, intellectual, and emotional needs of the individual child.
  4. Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn.
  5. Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued.
  6. Ensuring classroom supplies and materials are available, clean, and in good working condition.
  7. Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on respect and trust.
  8. Communicating with parents and other staff members regularly, including writing progress reports and holding parent/teacher conferences when necessary/scheduled.
  9. Setting an excellent example for students and instilling in them values such as honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, love, respect, and kindness.
  10. Attending to classroom administrative duties such as attendance, reports, safety drills, etc.
  11. Participating in all required school activities, meetings, and training.

Applicant Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education, or related discipline.

Completed/in-process/willingness to attend an accredited Montessori training center (online and/or in-person).

Minimum 2 years of classroom experience.

Must be proficient and comfortable using technology.
