Upper Elementary Montessori Teacher

Wichita Montessori School is seeking an experienced elementary teacher to join us as a LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE teacher for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year (approximately 8 weeks, with the possibility of permanent employment). This position emphasizes teaching phonics, reading, spelling, grammar, cultural subjects, science, and math. Our small school has a very supportive staff and a wonderful community of families. At WMS, we offer a rigorous learning platform. Students use a combination of traditional Montessori materials, in addition to traditional curriculum and supplemental material. Our hybrid approach has a proven record of academic excellence.

Job Description:

We are looking for a reliable, creative, and enthusiastic teacher committed to providing a well-rounded education. They will be a part of a small but strong non-profit organization, with a dedicated staff, and a long tradition of dedicated families. The teacher will work collaboratively with other lead teachers, assistant teachers, and administration.

An ideal candidate is someone who is a lifelong learner who inspires a love of learning in their students; should be a proponent and practitioner of peaceful methods of communication and conflict resolution; and should embrace patience, creativity, kindness, respect, and independence in themselves and others.

Teacher Responsibilities:

• Keeping students safe physically, emotionally, and mentally while they attend school.
• Ability to teach assigned content by providing direct instruction with clear objectives for all lesson plans
• Developing lessons and individual learning activities that cater to the social, physical, intellectual, and emotional needs of the individual child.
• Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn.
• Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued.
• Ensuring classroom supplies and materials are available, clean, and in good working condition.
• Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on respect and trust.
• Communicating with parents and other staff members regularly, including writing progress reports and holding parent/teacher conferences when necessary/scheduled.
• Setting an excellent example for students and instilling in them values such as honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, love, respect, and kindness.
• Attending to classroom administrative duties such as attendance, reports, safety drills, etc.
• Participating in all required school activities, meetings, and training.

Applicant Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education, or related discipline.

Ideal candidate will have training in the Montessori method. 

Minimum 2 years of classroom experience.

Must be proficient and comfortable using technology.
