BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

            The Special Education Coordinator demonstrates a commitment to learning for all students by providing support and professional development to Special Education (SPED) providers on Individual Education Plan development, specially designed instruction, and ensuring services for students with exceptionalities are delivered in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education and Improvement Act.          

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Assist in coordination and implementations of staff development and orientation.

2.  Monitor and implement program compliance with Federal and State rules and regulations.

3.  Review IEPs to ensure IDEIA compliance.

4.  Provide appropriate guidelines, consultation, and coordinative support to facilitate the IEP process and procedures, as well as research-based instructional tools and practices, for staff coop-wide.

5.  Attend IEP meetings as necessary for insuring consistency of student placement, observation of staff performance, and general process oversight.

6.  Develop and maintain a knowledge base of assessment, curriculum, and instruction, and their potential impact on special education through continued professional development.

7.  Provide instructional and IEP mentoring to certified staff.

8.  Assist in the evaluation of special education programs and staff. 

9.  Assist with the completion of reports and file reviews to meet state compliance.

10.  Maintain adequate records for completing required reports for all state and federal agencies.

11.  Act as liaison between director/assistant director and the building teams regarding special education functions, including participation in Advisory Board meetings and administrative meetings.

12.  Keep informed of all legal requirements governing special education.

13.  Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with regular education administrators and teachers. 

14.  Assist with recruitment and assignment of paraprofessionals and certified staff.

15.  Travel throughout the cooperative.

16.  Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with education and experience. This is a 239-day contract.
