This position will supervise a team of accountants, ensuring accuracy of the Universitys financial statements and compliance with governmental GAAP. This role will also be responsible for preparing or reviewing reports specific to the higher education industry, including the Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) Survey, Composite Financial Index (CFI), the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA), and Finance Section of the Integrated Post Secondary Education Data Systems (IPEDS) survey. An individual who will be successful in this role is ready to drive process improvements with the ingenuity of a master craftsman utilizing creative problem-solving and effective communication. Summary of Responsibilities 
Provides timely and accurate financial reporting information to support the needs of internal and external users. Ensures the Universitys accounting information system and internal controls support financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
 

Essential Functions 

  1. Serves as the primary contact for the Universitys audits, leading the effort to prepare for the audits and approving responses to audit inquiries.
  2. Oversees the preparation of financial reporting information.
  3. Monitors changes in accounting standards, evaluates the impact on the University, and implements planned responses.
  4. Directs the maintenance of the Universitys chart of accounts to support financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  5. Oversees the Universitys capital asset and long-term debt management functions.
  6. Works closely with other departments to leverage technology to enhance efficiency of operations while balancing the need for an effective system of internal controls.

Minimum Education 
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business or related field
 

Minimum Experience 
Six (6) years of experience in accounting, finance or related field, with two (2) years of experience in a leadership role
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  1. Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills
  2. Ability to prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to self-review
  3. Understanding of business processes and internal controls related to accounts receivable (including student accounts), accounts payable and purchasing, payroll, cash management, capital assets, and debt management
  4. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams
  5. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  6. Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Salary Information

Range beginning $96,000/yr, adjusted based on qualifications
