Title: Behavior Consultant
Qualifications: *Highly qualified teacher or social worker with full state of Kansas certification *Minimum of five years successful teaching experience in which the teaching of at risk and/or behaviorally challenged students was an important responsibility for the position. *Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior. *Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). *Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessments and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students. *Expert knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively. *Exceptional knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction. *Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction. *Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality. *Demonstrates exceptional skill in the roles of a teacher leader: collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate.
Reports to: Executive Director of Special Education
BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE: The Behavior Consultant will provide continuous support to the overall educational environment by utilizing positive behavior support strategies in order to address student behaviors. The Behavior Consultant helps coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans that address students inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful. The Behavior Consultant also provides classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies.
SCOPE OF POSITION: The Behavior Intervention Consultant will:
Work closely with staff to coordinate, manage, assess needs, determine student assignment and work systems in regards to special education autism/life skills programs. Trains, models, and coaches staff in appropriate use of structured teaching, visual supports, and environmental modifications to meet the educational/vocational needs of students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of the TEACCH Transition Assessment Profile (TTAP), helping create transition plans to ensure that students develop skills necessary for successful vocational transitions into adult life. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.

The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
