Qualifications: *Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center Health certificate on file in Devin Center *3-5 years teaching experience preferred, but not required
Reports To: Building Principal and Exec. Director of Special Education
Supervises: Students
BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE The Gifted Education teacher is responsible for planning, implementation, evaluation and support of a comprehensive gifted service delivery model. The Gifted Education teacher collaborates with other members of the staff and administration to appropriately monitor student progress, make informed, timely educational decisions regarding eligibility, and student progress/growth.

The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Professional responsibilities Communication with parents and colleagues Follow contractual responsibilities Engage in reflective practice Maintain accurate records Communicate with families Engage in professional development activities Maintain appropriate licensure Collaborate with others to achieve a common goal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
5. Understand the issues in definitions, theories, and identification of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds. 6. Recognize the learning differences, developmental milestones, and cognitive/affective characteristics of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds, and identify their related academic and social-emotional needs. 7. Understand, plan, and implement a range of evidence-based strategies to assess gifted and talented students, to differentiate instruction, content, and assignments for them (including the use of higher-order critical and creative-thinking skills).

Salary Range: Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.
