USD 434 is seeking a dynamic and qualified Agriculture Teacher and FFA Sponsor to join our team at Santa Fe Trail High School. This position combines innovative teaching with leadership in agricultural education, providing students with engaging, hands-on experiences in areas such as animal science, plant science, agribusiness, and agricultural mechanics. The ideal candidate will develop and deliver a curriculum aligned with Kansas agricultural standards, foster an inclusive and collaborative learning environment, and support students academic and career growth through classroom instruction and practical projects.

As the FFA Sponsor, the teacher will lead the chapters activities, inspiring students to develop leadership skills, participate in competitions, and explore career opportunities in agriculture. This role involves coordinating FFA events, managing chapter finances, and building connections with local agricultural organizations to enhance student experiences. Primary Purpose

Provide students with engaging learning experiences and hands-on activities in agricultural science and related fields to help them develop skills and competencies for success in the agriculture industry and society. Serve as the FFA sponsor, guiding students in leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.

Qualifications

Education/Certification(s)/License(s):

        Bachelors degree in Agriculture Education or a related field from an accredited university.

        Valid Kansas teaching license with appropriate Agriculture endorsements required.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

        Comprehensive knowledge of agricultural science, technology, and practices, including animal science, plant science, agribusiness, and mechanics and fabrication.

        Ability to develop and deliver curriculum aligned with Kansas agricultural standards.

        Proficiency in hands-on instruction and integrating technology into the agricultural classroom.

        Ability to manage student behavior and foster a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.

        Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including:

        Effective verbal communication with diverse audiences.

        Strong writing skills for clear and professional correspondence.

        Quick and effective decision-making in dynamic situations.

        Ability to manage responsibilities and meet deadlines.

        Capacity to collaborate constructively and professionally with colleagues and community members.

Experience:

        Experience teaching agriculture or related fields preferred.

        Experience as an FFA member or sponsor is strongly preferred.

Essential Job Functions

Instructional Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement lesson plans that align with district and state agriculture curriculum standards.
2. Use instructional strategies and activities that meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
3. Create opportunities for students to participate in hands-on agricultural projects, such as livestock management, crop production, and agricultural mechanics.
4. Evaluate student performance through formal and informal assessments, modifying instruction as needed.
5. Collaborate with special education staff to address accommodations for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

FFA Sponsorship Responsibilities:
6. Serve as the FFA Chapter Advisor, guiding students in leadership development, career exploration, and agricultural skill-building.
7. Plan and oversee student participation in FFA activities, including competitions, conferences, and community service projects.
8. Foster strong connections with local agricultural businesses and organizations to support FFA programs and career readiness initiatives.
9. Manage FFA finances, including fundraising activities, in accordance with district policies.
10. Mentor and support students in applying for FFA awards, scholarships, and advanced leadership opportunities.

Program Management:
11. Maintain an agriculture lab, greenhouse, or workshop, ensuring safety and proper use of equipment and facilities.
12. Organize and oversee student Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs.
13. Manage and maintain agricultural equipment and supplies, submitting requisitions as necessary.
14. Build relationships with community members to enhance program resources and student opportunities.

General Teaching Duties:
15. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, engagement, and collaboration.
16. Serve as a positive role model, exemplifying the districts mission and values.
17. Communicate effectively with parents, students, colleagues, and community members to promote student success.
18. Attend staff development sessions to maintain professional growth and program innovation.
19. Comply with all district and state regulations, policies, and the Kansas Educator Code of Conduct.
20. Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other school activities as assigned.

Safety and Administrative Duties:
21. Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
22. Maintain accurate records of student progress, program activities, and FFA events.
23. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
24. Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.

        Maintain emotional control under stress and adapt to changing circumstances.

        Frequently stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, and lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
