Dighton USD 482 is seeking a passionate and dedicated Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher to join our team for the upcoming school year! If you are enthusiastic about empowering students with essential life skills and have a strong background in areas such as culinary arts, sewing and textiles, child development, personal finance, and healthy living, we encourage you to apply.

About Dighton USD 482:

Located in the welcoming community of Dighton, Kansas, USD 482 is committed to providing a high-quality education that prepares students for future success. We pride ourselves on our supportive school environment, dedicated staff, and strong community involvement.

Next year, we are moving to a 4-day school Week. We will have classes on Tuesday-Friday. Teachers will have PD days on one Monday each month. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an engaging and comprehensive FACS curriculum that aligns with state standards and meets the diverse needs of students.
  • Instruct students in a variety of FACS subjects, including but not limited to:
    • Culinary Arts and Nutrition
    • Sewing, Textiles, and Design
    • Child Development and Parenting
    • Personal Finance and Consumer Economics
    • Housing and Interior Design
    • Family Relationships and Dynamics
  • Create a positive and safe learning environment that fosters student engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, projects, discussions, and technology integration, to cater to different learning styles.
  • Assess student learning through various methods, including assignments, projects, presentations, and assessments, and provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Manage classroom resources and maintain a well-organized and functional learning space.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community members to support student learning and school initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge in the FACS field.   
  • Sponsor and advise student organizations or extracurricular activities related to FACS, as needed.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Kansas teaching license with appropriate FACS endorsement (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences or a related field.
    We are willing to work with someone who has not completed all of their education.
  • We are willing to work with someone on a transition program.

Dighton USD 482 is a small, rural district located in southwest Kansas and is an agricultural based community.   Our knowledgeble  and friendly staff is committed to offering the most cutting edge learning opportunities to our students and is dedicated to student achievement and success at all levels.  Our mission at USD 482 is to Empower students to Own their Learning.  Dighton is a Redesign School (Gemini I-2018) and we are currently in year 5 of KESA.  We focus on continually improving our instructional practices to meet the needs of ALL of our students.

USD 482 has a Pre K-12 enrollment of approximately 260 students.  With the successful passing of a bond issue in 2012, our district has state of the art facilities and is comprised of one elementary school: PreK - 6 and Dighton Jr/Sr High School which houses grades 7-12.  We have 1:1Chromebook initiative grades 4-12 with grades PreK-3 having Ipads.  Our enrollment allows for small class sizes and opportunities for students to be involved in multiple activities.

 We are classified as 1A-Division II for activities and athletics.  Our students are well-disciplined and work hard on all fronts-academically and athletically.  We have many state champion athletes and quality opportunity for our students to excel in extra curricular events.  Our school district provides students` opportunities to explore multiple career and technical pathways and college courses as well as, a rigorous core curriculum.

Our district is steeped in community pride which recognizes that an excellent school system is the heart of a thriving rural community.  We have a very active Booster Club that promotes and supports not only athletics/activities, but academics as well.
