The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of music theory, instrument instruction, and ensemble management to foster a love and appreciation for music in students of all ages. Qualifications: Bachelor`s degree in Music Education or related field State teaching certification or licensure. Proven experience teaching music, with a focus on instrumental instruction and ensemble direction. Strong knowledge of K-12 music education curriculum and instructional methods. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities: Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a well-rounded and engaging music curriculum aligned with national and state standards for each grade level. Integrate various music genres, historical periods, and cultures into the curriculum to broaden students` musical knowledge. Instrument Instruction: Provide specialized instruction on a variety of musical instruments to students at different skill levels. Organize and lead group lessons, ensuring each student receives personalized attention and guidance. Ensemble Direction: Direct and conduct school bands and musical ensembles, fostering a collaborative and disciplined environment. Coordinate and organize regular rehearsals, concerts, and performances showcasing students` musical achievements. Music Theory Education: Teach fundamental music theory concepts, including notation, rhythm, harmony, and composition. Encourage students to develop critical thinking skills through the exploration of music theory. Individualized Support: Provide individualized support and guidance to students with varying skill levels and interests in music. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and self-expression. Collaboration: Collaborate with other educators and staff to integrate music into interdisciplinary learning experiences. Work closely with parents and guardians to communicate students` progress and involve them in their musical education. Burrton is a small, 1-A school district located in south central Kansas. We are a short hop away from Hutchinson, Newton, McPherson, and Wichita. We have the small town community that so many are looking for, with the conveniences of larger communities just a short drive away. Traditionally we have around 200 students Pre-K - 12. We provide small classes for academics with a student to teacher ratio of 8:1. We also provide many activities for our students. At Burrton, student have the opportunity to be a part of everything! We partner with our Burrton Recreation Commission to offer youth sports for our elementary students. We offer several different activities at the MS/HS level and if we don`t have something we have connections with other schools. This upcoming year we will be looking at different Career and Technical pathways and asking students what they are interested in. We are in the process of setting up internships for our Seniors and we can`t wait to see how that will grow.
