Speech Language PathologistTri-County Spec. Ed. Coop. Int. USD 607 • www.tricounty607.com Description The Speech Language Pathologist provides for the identification of students with speech or language impairments; provides for the diagnosis and remediation of speech and language deficits for eligible students; and, provides consultation to general education personnel through the MTSS process. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the Interlocal and school district. Essential Responsibilities - Maintenance of appropriate State licensure. - Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, in a variety of situations (ie. With students, with school personnel, with administration, with parents, and with community groups). - Ability to quickly analyze a situation and develop appropriate responses and interventions. - Ability to respond in a timely manner to requests for information. - Ability to use current software and web-based programs to perform job responsibilities. - Ability to work effectively with other personnel. - Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students. - Ensure that all student activities conform to federal, state and interlocal guidelines. - Communicate effectively with all members of the school district, Interlocal, and community. - Work effectively with community organizations. - Monitor and provide training/assistance to staff on student activities. - React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. - Support the value of an education. - Support the philosophy and mission of the Interlocal and the school district.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions - Requires prolonged sitting or standing. - Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. - Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching. - Requires regular travel. - Must be able to work in a variety of noisy and crowded environments.
Other General Responsibilities - Provide speech and language services to eligible students, as designated by the IEP. - Participate in assessment of student educational needs in regard to communication skills. This may include observation, interviews, standardized assessments, and curriculum based assessments. - Develop written assessment reposts, as required. - Participate in student improvement teams, as requested. - Maintain daily speech/language activity logs. - Complete Medicaid/SPECTRA billing as required for eligible students. - Consult with other personnel regarding necessary modifications and accommodations, and provide materials as needed. - Build instruction on previously learned materials. - Use a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate to meet individual student needs. - Provide for appropriate re-teaching, adaptations and modifications, as needed. - Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions. - Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. - Implements the district curriculum and instructional strategies to the maximum extent possible, based on the abilities of the student population. - Demonstrate a commitment to learning and apply new knowledge of instructional strategies and technology skills. - Participate in district and Interlocal activities, as requested. - Completes IEPs, evaluations and progress reports, as required by law and in a timely fashion. - Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback. - Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences. - Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior. - Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others. - Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available. - Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children. - Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families. - Monitor post-secondary outcomes for special education students and provide ongoing input to the staff and administrations on strengths/weaknesses in this proves. - Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports. - Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques. - Maintains professional and ethical standards. - Supervise staff members as assigned. - See that school district and Interlocal policies are observed during all activities. - Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures. - Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies. - Adhere to all district and Interlocal health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. - Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education. Qualifications - High School Diploma or equivalent - Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university - Current SLP Kansas Licensure on file in the Central Office - Successful completion of internship program. - Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office - Desire to continue career improvement Salary According to Salary Schedule Length of term 185 days (Could be different with Director Approval)

Support for New Teachers Tri-County Interlocal No. 607 and the Tri-County Interlocal Teachers Association jointly recognize the value of a mentor program. The purpose of this mentoring is to provide teachers an opportunity to develop new skills, be provided with staff development that is meaningful and job specific, provide training and support, and enhance the skills a teacher may already possess. We believe that by providing a teacher the chance to grow, the result will be better prepared teachers. These educators, in turn, will be able to provide students with the best instruction possible.
Tuition Assistance Opportunity Tri-County employees are eligible for up to 6 hours of tuition assistance per year, specifically to assist waivered and provisional staff to meet the requirements for a "highly qualified" endorsement or to assist individuals who are pursuing an endorsement in an area of need defined by the Interlocal.
