Purpose: At Leavenworth Public Schools- we are committed to ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Special Education Coordinator to support the development and management of our special education programs. Reports To: Director of Special Education

 

Salary: Based on the Teacher’s Negotiated Agreement Salary Schedule 

 

Qualifications

  1. Master`s degree from an accredited college/university. 
  2. Ability to secure and maintain a valid Kansas Teacher’s License with Special Education endorsement.
  3. Proven experience in special education services- program management- and compliance. 
  4. Strong attention to detail with the ability to monitor and manage multiple schedules and caseloads.
  5. Excellent organizational and communication skills- both written and verbal.
  6. Knowledge of federal- state- and local special education regulations.
  7. Proven experience with data entry and management information systems- ideally with a focus on special education-related data.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Development & Monitoring: Develop- monitor- and evaluate special education programming to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Ensure the implementation of services for students with IEPs complies with state and federal regulations. Continuously assess and adjust programs to align with best practices.
  2. IEP Management & Compliance: Serve as the LEA representative in IEP meetings. Review IEPs for compliance and provide feedback as necessary. Conduct Manifestation Determination Review hearings and ensure that all IEPs meet legal requirements. 
  3. Scheduling & Caseload Management: Develop and manage class schedules for students with IEPs- ensuring that all educational needs are met. Lead the coordination of special education staff schedules and teacher caseloads to ensure efficient service delivery. Take the lead in addressing paraprofessional attendance concerns- proactively troubleshooting and resolving staffing issues to maintain consistent support for students.
  4. Data Collection & Evaluation: Collect- analyze- and evaluate data related to students with IEPs- including progress monitoring- grades- and discipline. Use data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes. Provide professional development on data usage and instructional strategies.
  5. Collaboration & Consultation: Act as a liaison between students- families- and district staff to ensure clear communication and support. Collaborate with building and district administration- and coordinate with outside agencies providing services to students. Provide consultation and problem-solving support to staff regarding students with disabilities.
  6. Compliance & Resource Management: Ensure the proper management of special education materials- equipment- and resources. Assist with state and federal file reviews to maintain compliance with all regulations. Oversee resource allocation to ensure program effectiveness and fiscal responsibility.
  7. IEP System Support: Provide continuous support to staff on the IEP system and assist with submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  8. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership- contributing to the success and efficiency of the special education department.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

 

  1. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  2. Ability to enter data into a computer- to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  3. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and on the telephone
  4. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms- office spaces and on the telephone
  5. Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
  6. Ability to bend- stoop- sit on the floor- climb stairs- walk and reach overhead

Duty Days: 186 Contracted Teacher Duty Days per Year- with up to 34 extra duty days

 

Evaluation:      Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on evaluation of certified staff.
