Purpose:
To assist the director substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing- achieving- and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services. To provide ongoing leadership in the development- improvement- and implementation of the district’s teaching and learning programs.

Qualifications
- An earned master’s degree with a major in educational administration
- A valid building leadership license issued by the Kansas State Board of Education
- Five (5) years teaching and school administration
- Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Essential Job Functions
General Administration
- Assists in the overall administration of the school district.
- Keeps abreast of developments in education administration and works in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the administration and operation of the school district.
- Assists in the administration of the district’s instructional and professional development program budget.
- Keeps informed of and assists in interpreting federal laws- regulations- state statues- rules- and policies affecting education.
- Assists in developing necessary board policies and administrative rules.
- Attends board meetings and prepares such reports for the Board as the superintendent may request.
- Assists in the determination of types of instructional and professional development programs needed by the schools and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Interprets programs- philosophy- and policies of the district to staff- students- and the community at large.
- Maintains liaison with social- professional- civic- volunteer- and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools.
- Prepares state reports and claims as required.
- Plays a significant leadership role in fostering professional growth and building of staff morale throughout the district.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the associate superintendent and/or superintendent may assign.
Performance Responsibilities: Teaching and Learning
- Identifying strategies for improving student classroom behavior and identifying early and appropriate interventions to help students with special needs.
- Improves the knowledge and instructional practices of teachers- principals- and/or paraprofessionals to teach students with different learning styles- particularly students with disabilities- students with special learning needs- and students with limited English proficiency.
- Improves the quality of principals- assistant principals- curriculum specialist- and instructional facilitators- including the development and support of academics to help them become outstanding managers and educational leaders.
- Improves the knowledge of teachers- principals- and/or paraprofessionals in core academic subjects- as well as effective strategies- methods- and skills to improve student academic achievement.
- Maintains liaison and active participation with educational leaders in instruction and professional development at state- regional- and national levels.
- Lead and guide district initiatives surrounding Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
- Collaborate with district and building leaders in the formation of a district adopted instructional model.
- Collaborate with district and building leaders in the formation of hiring and retention protocols so as to increase and maintain a level of high quality employees.
