Position Title: Middle School History Teacher
Location:Hugoton, KS 
Employment Type: Full-Time

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School History Teacher to join our team and inspire students in grades 7-8 to engage with history and develop a deeper understanding of the past. The ideal candidate will bring history to life by fostering critical thinking, encouraging curiosity, and connecting historical events to contemporary issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties:

Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans that align with the curriculum and promote student success.

Teach key historical topics such as world history, U.S. history, geography, civics, and government, tailored to the developmental needs of middle school students.

Use a variety of instructional strategies, including technology integration, to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.

Foster critical thinking and analytical skills by teaching students how to interpret primary and secondary sources.

Create opportunities for students to connect historical events to current events and their personal lives.

Classroom Management:

Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.

Maintain high expectations for behavior and academic achievement, using proactive classroom management techniques.

Assessment & Feedback:

Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.

Use data to differentiate instruction and address individual learning needs.

Collaboration & Communication:

Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular connections and enhance the overall educational experience.

Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success and foster strong relationships.

Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in history education.

Additional Responsibilities:

Serve as an advisor or mentor to students, fostering their personal and academic growth.

Contribute to extracurricular activities

Attend staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events as required.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification:

Valid state teaching certification for middle school social studies/history.

Experience:

Prior teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred, but new teachers with strong content knowledge are encouraged to apply.

Skills:

Strong understanding of historical content and pedagogy.

Ability to create engaging lessons that promote critical thinking and historical inquiry.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in educational technology and classroom tools.

Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
