Direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music for grades 5-12 in USD210, Hugoton, Kansas. Provide students the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities and ensure compliance with all state, KSHSAA, KMEA, and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve league, region, and state recognition.
Major responsibilities:
Direct and supervise all levels of school band performances, including marching band, concert band, small ensembles, etc. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each students eligibility to participate in band. Provide opportunities for band participation in curricular and extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, basketball games, and any playoff events the band is invited to attend. Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town band events. Work with the designated budget. Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds according to local board policy. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within the department. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required (lesson plans). Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing and enter students grades weekly. The band director is required to grow the band program through recruitment of current and future students on each USD210 campus. Apply and enforce school discipline in accordance with each campus student handbook. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, activities director, and teachers. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned. Regular and punctual attendance at each worksite is required for this position. Bachelors Degree from an accredited university or college; valid Kansas teacher license.
