Summary: The assistant principal serves as the school and educational leader responsible for development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services. Administers the program in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements. Serves as an advocate for the staff, school, and school community as appropriate. Qualifications/Education: - Valid State of Kansas Secondary School Administrative credentials
- Five (5) years of teaching experience
- Knowledge about laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of public schools
Supervisory Responsibilities: All designated school personnel Essential Functions: - Responsible for improving the curriculum by assisting new teachers, making classroom visitations, and organize periodic faculty meetings designed to study problems
- Schedule and meet with committees
- Attend all Site Council Meetings
- Lead development of school improvement plan
- Lead production of School Profile
- Monitor Improvement Plan Strategies
- Provide training for teachers & help develop District In-School Professional Development Plan
- Organize building and technology committees
- Implement and monitor state and local assessments
- Communicate and interpret school policies and practices to parents, students, and the public
- Prepare all cumulative records, attendance reports, and special reports
- Continually monitor and submit budget requests for each school year to the superintendent
- Supervise students in the lunchroom, class breaks before/after school, bus loading/unloading, parking lots, and activities
- Conduct fire and tornado drills each month
- Conduct day-to-day discipline
- Supervise and plan school assemblies
- Supervise extra-curricular activities, athletic events, debate/forensics, music, etc.
- Organize and conduct interviews for open positions within school building
- Maintain student compliance with Board Policies contained in the Student Handbook
- Represent school at monthly League Meetings and responsible doe all league issues
- Operate school office
- Appear in court as requested
- Report truancy
- Serve as contact for agencies (probation, truancy review board)
- Give Board of Education reports as needed
- Supervise Crisis Management Preparation
- Oversee compliance with KSHSAA regulations
- Plan and prepare schedules for Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Attend community civic groups as a representative of the school
- Approve all reports made by the secretaries
General Responsibilities: - Evaluate the work of teachers and report information to superintendent when requested, periodic classroom visitations and personal conferences
- Responsible for the general supervision of the work of all employees
- Maintain all classroom times, observe that all classes exercise regular school hours and not dismiss early without prior approval
- Help plan summer maintenance projects
- Meet with Law Enforcement on student legal issues
- Attend Board of Education Meetings
- Report child in need of care cases
- Receive and return phone calls from parents and teachers
- Fill in for classes when no subs are available or teachers are gone to meetings, etc.
- Any other duties assigned by the superintendent
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: - Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and stand/walk frequently
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
- Must be able to work outside normal school hours
- Must be able to work in noisy environments with interruptions
Terms of Employment: Negotiated Contract Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Educations policy concerning evaluation of certified personnel.
