Mulvane School District is accepting applications for a School Counselor at our Mulvane Middle School

Purpose:  Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. 

 

Reports To:  Principal and Director of Special Services

                                   

Qualifications:

1.                   Masters degree in school counseling with current Kansas Teaching License.  

2.                   Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).

DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM. 

1.              Responsible for the implementation; including the scheduling, facilitating and documenting the pre-intervention (GEST / MTSS) process for their assigned school. 

2.              Develops and maintains written goals for the effective delivery of the school counseling services based school data and building needs. 

3.              Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders

4.              Uses the majority of time providing direct service through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services and most remaining time in program management, system support and accountability.

 

DELIVERY OF A COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM

Guidance Curriculum

1.                   Provides leadership and collaborates with other educators in the school-wide integration of the district counseling curriculum.

2.                   Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities as needed to meet student needs and school goals.

3.                   Knowledge of state and local assessments and ability to interpret and analyze aforementioned assessments in order to develop individual student and district student plans.

4.                   Knowledge of state and local curriculum and ability to analyze individual students and district curriculum needs and/or deficits.

 

Individual Student Planning

1.                   Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans.

2.                   Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data.

3.                   Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning.

 

Preventive and Responsive Services

1.                   Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs

2.                   Consults and collaborates effectively with parent/guardians teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.

3.                   Implements and effective referral and follow-up process including GEI and 504 building coordinator for responsibilities and activities. 

4.                   Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services.

 

System Support

1.                   Provides appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program.

2.                   Assists teachers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.

3.                   Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills

4.                   Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program. 

5.                   Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession. 

 

Accountability

1.                   Collects and analyzes data to guide program directions and emphasis.

2.                   Measures results of school counseling program activities and shares results as appropriate.

3.                   Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions. 

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

1.             Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.

2.             Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.

3.             Ability to lift 30 pounds.

 

Term of Employment:  Per negotiated agreement.
