Primary Purpose Essential functions of a superintendent include providing leadership and setting the district's educational vision, managing operations and administration, ensuring financial stability and budget management, overseeing personnel, and acting as the primary liaison between the school board, staff, and community. They must also ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and policies and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
Qualifications · Valid required Kansas professional license. · Valid Kansas driver’s license. · Necessary management skills to provide direction and leadership for the staff. · Necessary business skills to oversee the management of district resources. · Ability to ensure all school programs and activities conform to federal, state, and district guidelines. · Communicate effectively with staff and community organizations. · Ability to multi-task and take care of all tasks in a timely manner. · Support the district educational goals and the mission of the district. · Ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and stressful situations. · Ability to work long hours if needed. · Ability to use technology including computers and software. · Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence in the district. · Ability to work at both locations in the district.
Essential Job Functions Leadership and Vision Provide educational leadership and set the district's vision, aligning with the school board's goals. Provide leadership, information, and recommendations to assist the Board of Education in making decisions regarding the operation of the schools. Ensure the district's programs and operations are carried out effectively and in accordance with state and federal requirements. Develop and implement strategic plans. Operations and administration Manage the day-to-day administration of the school district. Supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of school buildings and grounds. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. Handle citizen inquiries and complaints, including difficult and sensitive issues. Financial management Administer the budget and ensure it is properly managed. Safeguard investments and maximize income. Oversee the allocation and management of all district funds. Be proactive in securing new sources of funding through grants or donations. Personnel Supervise and manage all professional and classified employees. Recommend compensation for key administrative, certified and classified staff. Provide and support professional development for staff. Act as the chief executive officer, responsible to the Board of Education. Develop an atmosphere of respect and enthusiasm within the district. Conduct annual evaluations of all administrators. Recognize and encourage outstanding performance by employees within the district. Communicate openly with the Board and the community. Make administrative decisions and present recommendations to the Board with supporting information. Compliance Ensure the administration and operation of all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies. Stay up-to-date on legal and legislative changes that affect the district. Develop a comprehensive curriculum and program of services that follows the state guidelines. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.

USD 505 is comprised of the southeast Kansas cities of Chetopa and St. Paul which lie 42 miles apart thus making our district unique in the state. St. Paul has a 9 hole golf course and a wildlife refuge that is great for hunting and fishing. St. Paul High School has also had many state qualifiers in track, football, volleyball, basketball and cross country.
