QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Enrolled concurrently in a KSBE-approved Teacher Preparation Program at a Kansas University/College.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office after employment offer is made.
- Continued enrollment in KSBE-approved Teacher Preparation Program with added duties each year.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
Job Description: We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join USD 252 Southern Lyon County as an Apprentice Teacher. In this role- you will work closely with experienced teachers and gain valuable hands-on experience in a classroom setting. As an Apprentice Teacher- you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of students while collaborating with the teaching staff to create a positive and engaging educational environment.
Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support
- Assist the lead teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials- classroom setup- and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
- Ensure a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere by monitoring student behavior and supporting students during classroom activities- transitions- and independent work.
- Student Support
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students as needed.
- Foster the personal- social- and intellectual development of students through guidance and remedial assistance.
- Instructional Assistance
- Collaborate with the lead teacher to deliver lessons and activities designed to meet curriculum objectives.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials and provide support during instructional periods.
- Help monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to promote academic growth.
- Grading and Assessment
- Support grading of assignments- exams- and projects following established guidelines.
- Help organize and maintain student portfolios.
- Lesson Planning
- Work with the lead teacher to develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals.
- Classroom Management
- Assist in maintaining discipline and managing classroom routines.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Professional Development
- Actively participate in professional development workshops and training sessions to enhance teaching skills.
- Stay informed about current educational practices and new technologies.
- Communication
- Maintain effective communication with students- parents- and other staff members.
- Provide feedback to the lead teacher regarding student progress and challenges.
- Administrative Tasks
- Support administrative tasks such as attendance recording and record-keeping.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the lead teacher or school administration.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrolled concurrently in a KSBE-approved Teacher Preparation Program at a Kansas University/College.
- Passion for working with children and supporting their educational development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience- empathy- and the ability to establish positive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic educational environment.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced teachers.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move- lift- carry- pull or push heavy objects or materials; should be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Requires stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching and turning.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
Evaluation: Performance effectiveness evaluated in accordance with Board of Education Policy.
