Sumner County Educational Services has an opening for a school psychologist (will consider school psychologist interns), for the 2024-2025 school year. The position will be an itinerant position potentially providing services in Belle Plaine, Caldwell, or South Haven as well as limited services at our Day School, in Wellington, KS.  

Requirements:

Applicants must have or be eligible for licensure or certification by the Kansas State Department of Education.

REPORTS TO: Director of the Interlocal and Building Principals

SUPERVISES: Para Educator for Psychological Services

JOB GOALS: Facilitates the determination of psychological and educational needs of students and the delivery of services to meet these needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Participates on the Student Improvement Team (SIT) as requested by the District and assists regular education staff in the development and implementation of classroom strategies for student improvement:

2. Participates in the District screening activities.

3. Facilitates the assessment, scoring, interpretation, staffing, and services for student referred for a comprehensive evaluation:

a. Assesses students referred for a comprehensive evaluation as per guidelines set forth by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Kansas State Regulations for Special Education.

b. Determines and supervises individual assessment battery for each child referred.

c. Administers and analyzes assessment data and coordinates this data with information gathered from other members of the evaluation team, general education teachers, parents, and others as determined necessary.

d. Consults with parents, educators, and personnel from outside the school setting to determine needs and appropriate services for each child.

e. Schedules and attends meeting for staffing and development of Individual Education Program (IEP) where applicable.

f. Participates on the IEP team, providing information on educational planning and placement.

g. Recommends additional services, (i.e.,   mental health counseling) as needed.

h. From data collected, writes evaluation/eligibility report of findings and completes all paperwork as required by Interlocal.

4. Supervises and conducts three-year comprehensive reevaluations which meet the comprehensive evaluation standards.

5. Conducts individual counseling with students as required by the IEP or Student Improvement Team.

6. Travels to assigned districts to perform all duties as required.

7. Supervises psychology Para Educator as required.

8. Ability to manage all job functions with mobility between/among job sites, drives from site to site, and interacts effectively with children of all ages and educational functioning.

9. Conducts a Functional Behavioral Assessment as needed and works with IEP team in the development of a positive Behavior Intervention Plan.

10. Follows the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Kansas State Regulations for Special Education.

11. Conducts Case Review as requested by staff or parent/guardian.

a. Schedules and attends meeting.

b. Collects data pertinent to student’s performance

c. Participates as member of IEP team in problem solving and determining recommendations.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned

1. Attends staff meetings scheduled by local school district or Interlocal.

2. Participates on committees and other meetings as required.

3. Supervises and prepares group activities as required.

4. Conducts Para Educator evaluation as required.

5. Conducts parent support group activities within district/s as required.

6. Participates and presents at staff development activities as requested by the Director.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

1. Accomplishes the goals and policies of the school district/s.

2. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.

3. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of job and related services.

4. Ability to work and function as part of a team in various setting, i.e. IEP team, Building Team, etc.

5. Individual Development Plan on file outlining personal professional growth.

6. Completes all work accurately and in a timely manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Environmental conditions and noises are at moderate levels. Protective equipment may be required, such as gloves, for exposure control under limited circumstances.

Salary Information

Salary determined by experience and degree level according to negotiated agreement.  Typical starting pay with no experience is $55,984 (this includes the school psychologist supplemental). Please visit d619.org to apply.
