Flinthills USD 492 is located in the Flint Hills of Kansas, covering approximately 400 square miles and includes the rural towns of Cassoday and Rosalia.  The district is a progressive 1A school with a total enrollment of 273 students.  Flinthills Primary School (PreK-2) is located in Cassoday, while    Flinthills Intermediate (3-5), Flinthills Middle (6-8), and Flinthills High School (9-12) are located in Rosalia.  The district offers a virtual program.  Over 30% of the students attending are out-of-district students.

 

Since the 2020 bond, all Flinthills facilities have been renovated. The district has two full competition-quality gyms, a practice gym in Rosalia, and a fourth small elementary gym at the Primary. The district's technology includes a 1:1 initiative, iPads in grades PreK-5, and Chromebooks in grades 2-12. Classrooms are equipped with projectors, SmartBoards, and Promethean Boards.

 

Extracurricular activities include football, volleyball,  cheerleading, wrestling, basketball, baseball,   softball, and track. Non-athletic activities include TriM, math relays, Honor Flight, drama, forensics, theater, scholars bowl, student council, band, vocal, FFA, SAFE, and TSA.

 

TITLE:                         Principal (6-12)

QUALIFICATIONS:  Appropriate certificate for elementary-level administration.

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent and Board of Education.

SUPERVISES:  All building-certified teaching staff and paraprofessionals, teacher aides, classified staff, etc.

JOB GOAL:  To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

2.       Works with staff to initiate, design, and implement programs that meet the specific needs of the students and supervises the school accreditation process.

3.       Keep the superintendent/board informed of the school`s activities, achievements, and problems.

4.       Make recommendations to the superintendent concerning the school`s staffing and instructional needs.  The principal is responsible for planning programs, schedules, and assignment of teacher duties.

5.       Prepares and submits board reports and oversees expenditures of student activity funds.

6.       Prepares all reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork appropriate to the school`s operation and administration.

7.       Interprets and enforces all district policies and helps interpret them to the staff and the public.

8.       Assists in developing, revising, and evaluating the curriculum and each student's mastery of instructional outcomes.

9.       Implements established guidelines for student conduct.  Maintains high standards of student conduct, enforces discipline as necessary, and assures due process for students when appropriate. 

10.     Be responsible for state-level and local-level and any other required standardized testing in the building with fidelity. 

11.     Assists in developing and operating professional development programs for certified teachers and (as appropriate) classified staff.

12.     Supervises and evaluates all professional, paraprofessional, and classified staff working in the school and reports to the superintendent on their performance.

13.     Exercises major responsibilities of recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, evaluating, and dismissing the school staff.

14.     Plans and supervises fire, tornado, and other emergency drills.

15.     Responds to all written and oral requests for information from the board and the superintendent.

16.     Acts as liaison between the school and the community.  Recognizes accomplishments and achievements of students and staff.  Responsible for the interpretation of the school`s program to the community and enlists the participation of the community in school activities

17.     Assists in providing decisive leadership in improving the total educational program within the school community.

18.     Cooperatively assists in the supervising and maintenance of build­ings, grounds, and equipment.

19.     Other duties which the superintendent or board may assign.

 

EVALUATION:  The performance of this individual shall be evaluated by the superintendent in accordance with current statutes according to procedures established by the Board of Education USD 492.

 

Benefits Information

The board shall allow 12 days of personal leave each year. Each year, the unused personal leave time will roll over into sick leave, which can accumulate up to 60 days.  

 

The principal shall be given leave during the school year that matches holiday breaks on the approved school calendar when the school is closed but is available for emergency situations.

 

The principal shall receive $535 monthly for the District's health insurance plan, and $75 for a cell phone plan.

 

The district will provide a school vehicle for official school functions and activities.

Flinthills USD 492 includes schools in the communities of Rosalia and Cassoday. Located east of El Dorado in eastern Butler County, the school is a progressive 1A school district with total enrollment of just under 300 students. The district has a PreK-2 building located in Cassoday while grades 3-12 attend school in buildings located in Rosalia. 

 

District facilities were renovated and added in 2020-21 as result of a bond issue. These improvements included: purchase of 10 acres; roofs; exterior doors and windows at the 3-12 Building; carpet district wide; an Ag building; 8-lane track; baseball/softball complex; tech addition for small engine repair; bus maintenance building; bus barn; seating, and lighting and audio systems in the auditorium; and interactive gym floors at both buildings. The district also completed interior facelifts by painting hallways, classrooms, and lockers.  The district was also able to make improvements with SPARK grant money due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The district installed a restroom at the PreK-2 Building, air purifiers in every HVAC unit; air purifying fans in most classrooms; touchless faucets and toilets district wide; touchless paper towel dispensers district wide, cafeteria tables at both buildings, additional iPads to complete our 1:1 initiative, an interactive projector with educational and physical games in the PreK-2 Gym, and purchased an assortment of cleaning tools and supplies.  

 

Technology used in the district includes a 1:1 initiative grades PreK-12.  PreK-1 use ipads, while 2-12 use chromebooks.  Classrooms are also equipped with SMART Boards.

 

Extracurricular activities include a full offering of sports including football, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, softball, and track. Other activities include cheerleading, drama, forensics, scholars bowl, band, vocal,  FFA, Skills USA, and TSA.

 

The district sets high standards for its students and has programs in place to help ALL students succeed.
