The Behavior Support Specialist uses data-driven and culturally responsive practices to assess student behavior, conduct Functional Behavior Assessments, and develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based Behavior Intervention Plans aligned with IEP goals. They collaborate closely with classroom teams, administrators, and families to coach effective behavior supports, provide consultation during IEP and problem-solving meetings, and align interventions with schoolwide initiatives such as PBIS, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming practices. The role also includes designing and delivering professional development, supporting crisis prevention and response, and leading transition and placement-related planning to ensure continuity of supports and positive student outcomes.
