Job Summary:
Minneapolis Grade School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary Physical Education Teacher to promote physical fitness, healthy habits, and teamwork among students in grades K6. The ideal candidate will foster a safe and inclusive environment where students develop motor skills, coordination, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate physical education lessons aligned with Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) standards.
- Teach students fundamental motor skills, physical fitness concepts, and cooperative games.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive social interactions.
- Create a safe and engaging learning environment, ensuring student safety at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to integrate physical education into the broader curriculum.
- Organize schoolwide physical fitness events, field days, or extracurricular physical activity programs.
- Manage and maintain equipment and materials used in physical education.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school committees as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelors degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Valid Kansas teaching license with an endorsement in Physical Education (K12).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with elementary-aged children.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching in a K5 setting.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of adaptive physical education strategies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and participation in physical activities.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions when necessary.
