Job Title:                        Elementary Assistant Principal

Reports To:                     Elementary Building Principal and Superintendent of Schools

Purpose:                        

The Elementary Assistant Principal assists the Principal in providing Professional leadership to organize, administer, supervise, and evaluate a creative school program. To accomplish these tasks, the Elementary Assistant Principal works closely with the community, staff, and administration of USD 367.

Required Qualifications            

  • Masters degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Kansas administrative license with building-level endorsement required.
  • Current Kansas State Teaching License
  • Three years certified experience.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file
  • Have a valid drivers license, be able to drive, and qualify under the districts insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
  • Desire to continue professional growth.

 Physical Requirements & Conditions  

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.                                
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry,pull, or push heavy objects or materials to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Requires some travel.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments. 

General Responsibilities                      

  • Assist in providing professional leadership to organize, administer, supervise, and evaluate a creative school program.
  • Assist in establishing an optimal learning environment within the school.
  • Ensure that all school programs and activities conform to district guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • Work effectively with community organizations.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of an education.
  • Support the philosophy and vision of USD 367.

 Essential Functions                       

  • Assist with the development of a program for the evaluation and improvement of instruction to ensure maximum educational benefits for students.
  • Assist with the development of a functioning education philosophy consistent with the values of the community, teachers, school administration, and Board of Education.
  • Assist with the development of a comprehensive curriculum and program of services in cooperation with teachers and District Administrative Office staff.
  • Assist with the development of an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff and administration.
  • Assist with supervision and in providing for the general welfare of students during the school day, on school trips, and during school activities.
  • Assist in maintaining effective programs to strengthen and monitor student discipline, attendance, and individual progress.
  • Assist with the selection and assignment of certificated and classified personnel.
  • Delegate duties for effective staff utilization.
  • Encourage the professional growth of teachers by advanced training, experimentation, and evaluation.
  • Assist with the administration of district policies in the operation of the school.
  • Assist with the administration of the school budget.
  • Assist in maintaining school records and filing necessary reports
  • Assist in school compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of the various governmental agencies.
  • Assist with planning and organizing the school day and year to provide for efficient operation of the school.
  • Assist with the maintenance of safe, clean, attractive, and well-kept buildings and grounds.
  • Make effective use of consultants and specialists in program and staff development.
  • Work cooperatively with peers in sharing ideas, techniques, and procedures for improvement of the learning environment.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or other Administrative Staff.

Teacher Application and Interview Procedure

This process consists of five steps:

  1. Submit a completed application file online to the Superintendent's Office through the district's Recruit and Hire website.  Begin the application process at www.usd367.org.  Under the District, go to Job Opportunities.  Applicant files must be complete before a screening interview will be arranged. A completed file consists of:
    1. a completed application
    2. college transcripts
    3. a photocopy of teaching certificate or letter explaining status of the teaching certificate
    4. credentials with four (4) letters of reference
  2. The Superintendent's Office will contact selected applicants to schedule a screening interview. Screening interviews will begin in February of each year and continue until the start of the school year.
  3. When a vacancy is announced, candidates will be selected and scheduled for additional interviewing. Building level administrators choose candidates for final interviews.
  4. The names of candidates recommended for employment will be placed before the Board of Education for final approval. The first hiring for a school year is scheduled for March of each year. Interviews and recommendations will continue throughout the spring and summer as positions become available.
  5. Applicants should contact the Superintendent's Office starting January 1 to reactivate their files for the upcoming year.
