Job Title:        Superintendent of Schools
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Reports to:     Board of Education

Purpose: The Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer and educational leader of Belle Plaine Unified School District 357, responsible for the effective leadership, management, and performance of all district programs, services, and schools. The Superintendent works under the direction of the USD 357 Board of Education to advance the district's mission and ensure high-quality educational experiences for all students.

Contract Length: 260 days  -  July 1st - June 30th

Salary: As set by USD 357 Board of Education

Benefits: Fringe Benefits as scheduled by the Board of Education

20 Vacation Days per year

2 Personal Days per year

10 Sick Days per year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

  • Current Kansas State Licensure with District Leadership endorsement.

  • Three or more years of successful educational leadership experience in building level leadership with district level experience preferred.

  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office.

  • A valid driver's license, ability to drive, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.

  • Desire to continue professional growth.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing

  • Requires occasional physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials up to 20 lbs.

  • Requires stooping, bending or reaching

  • Must be able to climb stairs or use a small step ladder

  • Must be able to look at digital screens for long periods of time

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Governance

  • Provide visionary leadership that supports student achievement, district improvement, and a positive culture across USD 357.

  • Supervise and direct all district operations, personnel, and instructional programs.

  • Meet regularly with the USD 357 Board of Education to report on district progress, advise on matters of concern, and recommend appropriate policy and operational action.

  • Provide the Board with accurate data, professional analysis, and recommendations to support effective governance and long-range planning.

  • Interpret and implement Board policies and decisions, ensuring consistent communication to staff, students, families, and community stakeholders.

Strategic & Operational Management

  • Define district goals, objectives, expectations, and systems to ensure effective administration and strong educational outcomes in USD 357.

  • Evaluate educational, staffing, instructional, and facility needs and recommend strategies to meet both current demands and future growth.

  • Oversee personnel processes by authorizing final recommendations to the Board regarding hiring, assignment, transfer, promotion, suspension, or dismissal in accordance with Kansas statutes, KSDE regulations, and USD 357 Board policy.

  • Lead the preparation, presentation, and administration of the district's annual budget, ensuring fiscal accountability and alignment with district priorities.

  • Guide and evaluate innovative, pilot, or experimental initiatives that support the continuous improvement of USD 357 programs and services.

Communication & Community Engagement

  • Implement and maintain open, transparent, and effective communication systems to build trust and support among students, staff, families, and the Belle Plaine community.

  • Serve as the official spokesperson of USD 357 and represent the district at community events, professional organizations, and public forums.

  • Advocate for USD 357's interests within the Kansas Legislature and remain actively involved in state and regional educational organizations.

USD #357 Belle Plaine is a district with 550 students in Preschool through 12th grade located in a quiet community just 20 miles south of Wichita.  The district recently completed a $15,850,00 Bond Election that included building additions and improvements district-wide. Our staff, administration, Board of Education and community are committed to maintaining our reputation as the "Home of Quality Schools".  

Belle Plaine Elementary School serves students in grades Pre-K through 4th. It has a staff of 20 dedicated teachers who strive to create a positive environment where all members have a common goal to develop life-long learners. Belle Plaine Elementary School boasts a state-recognized Preschool through 2nd Grade Early Childhood Program, and a well-established All-Day Kindergarten Program.

Belle Plaine Middle School serves students in grades 5-8 with a staff of 13 teachers plus support staff. BPMS focuses on fundamental academic skills, teaching personal responsibility and developing character. 

Belle Plaine High School is a 2-A high school serving students in grades 9-12. BPHS has a staff of 18 outstanding teachers. Our high school has a 95% graduation rate and a composite ACT score of 22.4. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks Belle Plaine High School as "One of the Best High Schools in Kansas".  We offer a variety of sports and co-curricular activities in which students can become involved.

Technology Vision Statement USD #357 is committed to providing a technology-enhanced curriculum and supports 1:1 technology district-wide. PreK to 2nd grades have iPads and 3rd-12th graders have Chromebooks.  All teachers are issued MacBook Pro laptops and iPads as needed. The district`s vision includes providing our professional staff the resources and skills necessary to offer a PreK-12th grade learning environment rich in instructional technology. Our technology-integrated curriculum creates a student-centered learning community that develops skills for personal success for all students.
