Elementary School Counselor

USD 294 is currently seeking a counselor to provide support services to school age students.  

Purpose: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.

Qualifications: Masters degree with appropriate Kansas licensure.

Supervisor: Building Principal

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.
  • Works to address/resolve students educational and social-emotional challenges.
  • Assigns students to classes and orients them to school procedures and the schools varied opportunities for learning.
  • Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, maturity, and understanding of self and others.
  • Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
  • Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
  • Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
  • Confers with parents whenever necessary.
  • Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered through the districts K-12 guidance program, and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled.
  • Provides input to administrators and faculty on matters dealing with overall student performance.
  • Takes an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Complies with good safety practices.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information

USD 294 provides a competitive salary based on the USD 294 Negotiated Agreement with all teaching experience granted.

USD 294 is one of the 19 districts across the state of Kansas taking part in the Kansas Can Apollo Redesign School Project. Our district has a strong tradition in student academic success, music, and athletics.  All students are provided with a tremendous education, and the district has strong community and alumni support.  Our school technology is a selling point with 1:1 Chromebooks and the entire Google Suite to utilize toward education.  Several different organizations offer scholarship opportunities for all our students at Decatur Community High School, DCHS.  

The DCHS Scholarship Program would compare to any district in the state, and the success of our students is amazing.  Students who want to attend college have a tremendous opportunity to do so after graduating from USD 294.  DCHS has many very successful graduates who still support the school district and the community.
