Reports to: Keystone Executive Director
PURPOSES:
Provide leadership, administrative oversight, and program management for the John Dewey Learning Academy (JDLA) program to ensure compliance with Kansas state educational standards and high-quality services for students. The Day School Administrator coordinates operations, supervises staff, oversees regulatory compliance, and collaborates with families, school districts, and Keystone administrators to support student success.
Essential Functions:
Provide administrative leadership and manage day-to-day operations of the Day School program.
Supervise, coach, and evaluate instructional and support staff in compliance with Kansas licensure requirements and organizational policies.
Ensure implementation and monitoring of student educational plans and services aligned with IEPs and Kansas state regulations.
Oversee student enrollment, attendance, scheduling, and transition planning.
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, including Kansas Department of Education standards and reporting requirements.
Ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic learning environment for students and staff.
Collaborate with families, school districts, and community partners to support educational programming and student outcomes.
Provide timely and accurate data to building administrators regarding student performance, attendance, and disciplinary responses to student behavior.
Work with the Executive Director to ensure that the Keystone board is informed about relative program strategies and details regarding staff and student issues that arise.
Address student, staff, and parent concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Assist with program planning, budgeting, and resource allocation in consultation with the Executive Director.
Collect, review, and use program and student data to inform continuous improvement and accountability measures.
Ensure confidentiality of student, staff, and district information.
Other Functions:
Serve as the instructional leader of the JDLA program.
Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support the JDLA program and Keystone Learning Services.
Participate in leadership meetings, professional development, and cross-program collaboration.
Support coverage and continuity of services during staff absences.
Prepare and deliver positive presentations to the Keystone board and community organizations regarding the JDLA program.
III. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS in educational administration, staff supervision, compliance monitoring, and effective communication. Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead teams collaboratively. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
KNOWLEDGE of Kansas special education law, licensure requirements, school administration, and instructional practices. Demonstrate understanding of student behavior management and academic support. Commitment to positive outcomes for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
ABILITY to interpret and implement policies, regulations, IEPs, and state requirements. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and documentation. Apply problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex administrative situations.
VII. Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds, some pushing and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. The employee is occasionally required to stand (sometimes for extended periods); walk (sometimes for extended distances); and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Ability to safely implement district-approved Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI) as required, including physical intervention when a students behavior presents an immediate risk of harm to self or others, consistent with training and applicable regulations. Generally, the job requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing. The job is performed primarily in a school environment that is generally hazard free.
Core requirements
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an educational or administrative setting; administrative leadership experience preferred.
Education: Masters degree in education, educational leadership, or related field required.
Licensure: Current Kansas administrator licensure or accepted plan of study in pursuit of such licensure is required.
Equivalency: Evidence of the ability to lead staff, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and support students with varying needs.
