The role of the Speech Language Pathologist is to conduct speech-language therapy in a positive and language-rich environment. This role is required to follow all State and/or School mandates.Speech Language Pathologist
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 7:45 am - 3:45 pm; this position may require attendance at special events outside of normal working hours; 181-day contract plus two required orientation days for the 2025-2026 school year
Speech Therapy:
Conduct individual and/or group speech-language therapy as mandated by the IEP process with students utilizing standardized tests, therapist-made tests, curriculum, and other materials, and/or necessary tests.
Perform work associated with student therapy, such as assembling appropriate materials; monitoring student progress in attaining IEP goals; collaborating, as appropriate, with staff to serve students.
Communicate with parent(s)/legal guardian(s),as needed.
Maintain control of students.
All State and/or school requirements mandated will be met.
All other duties as assigned.
Reporting:
Complete all scheduled reports, including, but not limited to, student comprehensive re-evaluations, progress monitoring, IEPs, department reports, and other reporting as assigned; reports are due by the specified due date to maintain current school records and compliance.
Provide interpretation of evaluations, assessments, and therapy progress/prognoses to parent(s)/legal guardian(s), students, staff , and other authorized personnel.
Participate in IEP/comprehensive student meetings as needed.
All State and/or school requirements mandated will be met.
Meetings:
Attend agency, instructional, professional, and staff development meetings as required to enhance communication, improve skills, and coordinate programs.
Participate in other programs and meetings as required to maintain appropriate certifi cation and/or licensure and continue professional growth.
Communication:
Use appropriate communication skills with students, staff , parent(s)/legal guardian(s), and the public to eff ectively communicate with deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing individuals.
Take the initiative to improve American Sign Language and/or English skills appropriately.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology. Kansas licensure for speech/language therapist (or the ability to obtain). One year experience in a clinical or education setting. Knowledge of educational, social/emotional, and development needs of DHH students; awareness of deaf culture; ability to make oral/signed and written reports/presentations; basic knowledge of special education law and procedures; ability to apply principles of speech/language pathology with DHH students; ability to make proper responses to safety/health concerns; ability to be a positive role model. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Experience with deaf/hard of hearing students. Fluency in manual communication; ability to understand and use ASL and English in appropriate modes (ASL and English skills will be assessed); fl uency in Spanish is a plus;
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All off ers of employment from Kansas School for the Deaf (KSD) are contingent upon background check results and any applicable workplace references. Background checks are conducted through the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Backgrounds Plus, the Kansas Department of Children and Families, and the Dru Sjodin National Sexual Off ender Registry. KSD may contact previous employers for workplace references. Within 30 days of employment, a tuberculosis test (and any applicable treatment) must be completed by a medical provider at the employee's expense, along with a health certifi cate.
