Highly qualified special education teacher, counselor, BCBA or social worker with full state of Kansas certification Preferred 3 years successful experience teaching experience in which the teaching of “at risk” and/or “behaviorally challenged” students was an important responsibility for the position. Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior. Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessments and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students. Expert knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively. Exceptional knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction. Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction. Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality. Demonstrates exceptional skill in the roles of a teacher leader: collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate.
Social/Emotional Consultant seek to be change agents in the schools they work by partnering with administrators, staff, and students around the areas of mental health, behavior, and social/emotional functioning. The Social/Emotional Consultant will provide continuous support to the overall educational environment by utilizing Positive Behavior support strategies in order to address student behaviors. The Consultant helps coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans that address students’ inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful. They are also a liaison with Project Stay regarding most intense needs.
The candidate: Team weekly with the USD 330 Mission Valley support staff, which include (social worker, behavior intervention specialist, structural specialist, structural/behavioral support staff) Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principals of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents. Facilitate team collaboration with the identified student’s teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a Functional Behavioral Assessment. Work with other USD 330 Mission Valley support staff to help determine needed observations, team collaboration meetings, and support to most intense situations. Facilitate team meetings that: design Behavior Intervention Plans; address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and ethical issues; School-wide Positive Behavioral Support; and factors that affect effectiveness including social validity and treatment integrity. Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions. Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets research, strategies, and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implantation of positive behavior support in their classrooms. Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations. Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions. Participate in building level MTSS team and/or grade level meetings, as appropriate. Attend professional development opportunities to maintain high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices. Provide professional learning to staff in the area of behavior. Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job. Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. Assist case manager with all necessary paperwork including, but not limited to: IEP and supporting documents, data collection, assessment summaries Attend all IEP meetings for the students Engage students, through discussion, that are having behavioral difficulties as they occur. Provide resources and information regarding mental health and behaviors to teachers and paraprofessionals that is specific to individual students in the program. Monitors progress systematically, and adjusts interventions based on data showing effectiveness/ineffectiveness of interventions with families Maintain continuous communication with parents through home visits, phone calls, e-mail, parent meetings, etc. Work collaboratively with area agencies. Review progress toward IEP outcomes, re-evaluate and summarize progress, and revise IEP’s within required timelines Demonstrate skills for accessing technology for communication and completion of job-related tasks

Employer Information ![]() Mission Valley USD 330 is located approx. 30-50 minutes from Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Emporia. We are a 2A district with our Elementary/Junior High and High School both centrally located at the same site between the towns of Eskridge, Dover, and Harveyville. In August 2022 the district patrons voted to pass a $12 million bond to upgrade the current facilities. This project included a secure entrance at the 7-12 entrance, 7-12 office renovation, renovated science classrooms, renovated Vocational Agriculture Education building, new Career Technical Education center, new softball & baseball field complex, new all-weather track, new artificial turf football field, and other upgrades to current infrastructure.
