Drivers Education Instructor (Summer 2026)

USD 330 Mission Valley is looking for a Drivers Education Instructor for Summer 2026. The district is looking for a dynamic educator to teach drivers education at a rural school with approximately 200 students (7th-12th), 20 certified staff members, and 20 classified staff members.  Mission Valley is a member of the Flint Hills League which includes  (Osage City, Lyndon, West Franklin, Chase County, Alma-Wabaunsee, Morris County, and Cair Paravel). 

Mission Valley is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Topeka, 35 miles north of Emporia, and 45 miles southeast of Manhattan.   The USD 330 school district is comprised of the rural communities of Dover, Eskridge, and Harveyville.

This position would be conducting the driving requirements for drivers education.  The classes would take place in the summer of 2026.   The classroom portion is completed using Greenbush.

Qualified individuals should possess the following credentials/qualities:

1. Hold a current and appropriate Kansas teaching license or be able to obtain and receive the appropriate initial teaching license.
2. Establish a classroom environment that is conductive to learning, innovative and student centered.  Average class size is 25-30.
3. Promote high standards for student performance, positive peer interactions and appropriate social behavior.
4. Work cooperatively with other school personnel and parents/guardians
5. Adhere to USD 330 Board of Education approved policies and regulations
6. Be flexible and be able to perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Building Principals
7. Maintain and establish effective communication skills with all stakeholders.

Driver's education teacher duties include delivering behind-the-wheel instruction to prepare students for licensure, teaching Kansas traffic laws and GDL requirements, evaluating student progress, communicating with parents, and maintaining safety standards. 

They must also follow KSDE and DMV standards, keep detailed records, and adhere to school policies, sometimes working evenings or weekends. 

Instructional Duties

Classroom Instruction: Teach state traffic laws, rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and the importance of vehicle safety. 

Behind-the-Wheel Instruction: Provide hands-on driving lessons, focusing on vehicle control, space management, and developing safe driving habits. 

Curriculum Implementation: Deliver the driver education program following Kansas Department of Education (KSDE) standards, which includes specific hours of classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. 

Student Support: Help students develop confidence, address individual learning needs, and provide feedback for improvement. 

Administrative & Communication Duties

Record Keeping: Track student progress, communications, and other aspects of their training and report this information to parents and school management. 

Communication: Maintain effective and professional communication with students and their parents regarding progress, concerns, and scheduling. 

Scheduling: Schedule driving lessons with students. 

Safety & Standards

Safety: Maintain impeccable safety standards during all behind-the-wheel instruction and ensure a supportive, safe learning environment. 

State Compliance:

Adhere to all state-mandated requirements, including KSDE standards for driver education and Kansas DMV Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) requirements. 

Professional Development & Work Environment

Flexibility: Be available to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet operational needs and student demand. 

Collaboration: Work cooperatively with other school personnel. 

Professional Growth: Stay current on trends, materials, and innovative approaches in driver education.

Mission Valley USD 330 is located approx. 30-50 minutes from Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Emporia.  We are a 2A district with our Elementary/Junior High and High School both centrally located at the same site between the towns of Eskridge, Dover, and Harveyville.

In August 2022 the district patrons voted to pass a $12 million bond to upgrade the current facilities.  This project included a secure entrance at the 7-12 entrance, 7-12 office renovation, renovated science classrooms, renovated Vocational Agriculture Education building, new Career Technical Education center, new softball & baseball field complex, new all-weather track, new artificial turf football field, and other upgrades to current infrastructure.  The project was successfully completed August 2024.
