USD 234 has an available Assistant Principal postiiton for the 2026-27 school year. Elementary School Assistant Principal Purpose: The ideal candidate provides leadership, management, and supervisory skills that promote learning for each student. They lead others and stand for the ideas and values that help develop lifelong learners and future leaders within their District. The principal works closely with the head principal, students, parents/guardians, building, and district staff to accomplish these tasks. Qualifications: Masters degree from an accredited college/university. Current Kansas State Elementary Building Level Administrative Endorsement. Current Kansas State Teaching License. Desired Characteristics and Skills Of New Principal: Able to value people and build a positive culture within the school by being approachable, being a great listener with non-judgmental feedback, recognizing the hard work being done, and can remain positive even when challenges arise. Has previous primary teaching and/or administrative experience and knowledge of curriculum, instructional strategies, and discipline strategies that work with kids in grades K-2. Addresses important issues with staff through professional, direct, and confidential communication. Has a strong background in instructional leadership and recognizes effective teaching and can coach all staff to become better at what they do. Possesses the people skills to be intentional in their approach to communication and leadership and is able to say what needs to be said with respect and kindness. Understands about the life of staff outside of school and the importance of supporting staff through situations that may arise with a staff members life outside of school. Able to prioritize and manage time to be visible in classrooms and throughout the building on a regular basis and establish a student- focused culture throughout the school. Responsibilities: Work closely with the staff and administration of USD 234. Be a positive representative of the school district throughout the community. Promote the success of every student by advocating, nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program dedicated to student learning and staff professional growth. Promote the success of every student by ensuring management of the organization, operation, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations. Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff and administration. Encourage the professional growth of teachers through evaluations, and assistance they may need. Administer district policies in the operation of the school. Maintain school records and file necessary reports. Plan and organize the school day and year to provide for efficient operation of the school. Work cooperatively with peers in sharing ideas, techniques and procedures for improvement of the learning environment. Perform any duties as may from time to time be requested by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education. The mission of the Fort Scott Public Schools is to lead in the SUCCESS of each student to become independent, responsible, and productive citizens.

 

Fort Scott has two elementary schools, Winfield Scott - grades K-2 and Eugene Ware - grades 3-5.  Each school`s academic program emphasizes reading, language arts, math, social studies, and science.  The children participate in physical education, vocal music, art, library, and computer labs.

 

Fort Scott also provides a Preschool Center.  The special needs of developmentally delayed preschool children are met.

Fort Scott Middle School serves all district students in grades six, seven, and eight.  A core curriculum of reading, language arts, social studies, math, and science is emphasized through a teaming approach.

 

Fort Scott High School is for students in grades nine through twelve.  The curriculum features a college or career-ready curriculum in a student- centered focused environment.  Students may choose from a variety of electives and enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities and clubs.
