Position Summary:
The Superintendent of Schools provides visionary and ethical leadership to advance student achievement and organizational excellence. Reporting to the Board of Education, the Superintendent implements Board policy; oversees instructional programs, personnel, finances, and operations; ensures compliance with all applicable laws; and fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. To accomplish these tasks, the Superintendent works closely with the Board of Education, administration of the district, staff, and community.

Work Schedule: 12-36 month contract
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversee the general administration operation of the school district in accordance with Board of Education policy and applicable laws.

Implement and ensure compliance with all district policies, rules, and regulations.

Serve as the primary advisor to the Board of Education by providing leadership, accurate information, and well-reasoned recommendations to support informed decision-making.

Supervise the development and administration of the annual school district budget; monitor expenditures and recommend the use of funds for unforeseen or emergency needs.

Lead the development and implementation of a district-wide educational philosophy consistent with the values of the community, teachers, school administration, and Board of Education.

Communicate openly and effectively with the Board of Education, administration, staff, community, and students.

Foster positive and productive working relationships between the school district and its patrons, partners, and stakeholders.

Promote a district culture characterized by respect, collaboration, engagement, and enthusiasm for learning and continuous improvement.

Recognize, support, and encourage outstanding performance and professional growth among district personnel.

Supervise and conduct the annual evaluations of all administrators and directors who report directly to the Superintendent, including assistant superintendents and building principals.

Authorize all final employment recommendations to the Board of Education.

Provide leadership in planning and organizing staff development activities designed to strengthen leadership capacity, improve communication, and enhance instructional effectiveness.

Develop a comprehensive program for the evaluation and improvement of the operations of the school district.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements governing school operations.

Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques in education, district leadership, and other relevant areas.

Ensure adherence to all district health, safety, and emergency preparedness policies.
-
Perform all duties required by state and federal statutes and by Board of Education policy and action.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Education.

Working Condition Requirements:

Must maintain emotional control and professionalism in high-stress and challenging situations.

Frequently work prolonged and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends as required.

Frequently sit for extended periods and use standard office and instructional equipment, including computers, keyboards, and other peripherals.

Occasionally bend, stoop, push, pull, twist, or reach; frequently lift and carry items 15 lbs.

Work in noisy or crowded environments and maintain focus and productivity under such conditions.

Maintain regular and timely attendance, including consistent physical presence at district facilities.

Frequently travel by vehicle throughout the district and state for meetings, school visits, and other duties.
Qualifications & Skills:
-
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or Administration; Doctorate preferred.

Valid Kansas Superintendent license or eligibility for licensure as required by the Kansas State Department of Education.

Minimum of three years of successful educational leadership experience, including experience as a building principal, assistant superintendent, or comparable administrative role; experience in instructional leadership preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of school finance, budgeting, and resource management.

Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational management, and district-wide program evaluation.

Strong understanding of Kansas school statutes, Board of Education governance, and federal/state education regulations.
