Student Support CounselorOxford USD 358 • www.usd358.com Position OverviewThe Student Support Counselor plays a vital role in fostering the academic, social, and emotional success of all students. This position provides direct support to students, collaborates closely with staff and administration, and contributes to creating a positive, student-centered school environment. The counselor serves as a key resource in student scheduling, post-secondary planning, and ongoing social-emotional support. Key ResponsibilitiesSocial-Emotional SupportProvide individual and small-group counseling focused on students social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Implement and support SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) programming and interventions across grade levels. Assist students in developing self-advocacy, coping skills, conflict-resolution strategies, and healthy decision-making. Serve as a resource for teachers and families regarding student well-being. Academic & Scheduling SupportLead and assist in the creation of student schedules in coordination with administration and the registrar. Monitor academic progress and collaborate with teachers to support students experiencing academic challenges. Help students understand graduation requirements and pathways for academic success. Post-Secondary Planning Guide students in exploring and preparing for post-secondary opportunities, including college, career, military, and technical training paths. Assist with applications, financial aid awareness, scholarship searches, and readiness planning. Coordinate with outside agencies, career centers, and community partners to expand opportunities for students. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the administrative team to support schoolwide initiatives, behavior systems, and student-support structures. QualificationsBachelors or Masters degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related field (Masters preferred). Appropriate licensure or ability to obtain licensure as required by the state. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Experience working with adolescents in a school or youth-support setting preferred. Preferred SkillsExperience in social-emotional learning programs or trauma-informed practices. Ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff. Strong organizational skills, particularly with scheduling and record management. Knowledge of college admissions, career pathways, and post-secondary planning tools. Ability to work collaboratively in a small, community-focused school environment.
