Duties and Tasks

  1. Provide social and emotional support in Head Start Classrooms.
  2. Home visitation. Conduct home visits to support the mental health needs of families and children. 
  3. Staff support. Provide support to staff as they encounter behavioral and mental health issues in students and their families.  Provide updates and training at staff meetings.
  4. Networking and referral. Build collaborative relationships with other service providers.  Provide referrals when appropriate.
  5. Participate in regular supervision with Early Head Start Coordinator
  6. Contribute to federal, state, and local reporting requirements
  7. If licensed at the Master’s level: Provide therapeutic services in the homes or in other locations, including assessment; referral; diagnosis; treatment, including psychotherapy and counseling; client-centered advocacy; consultation; evaluation; and interventions directed to interpersonal interactions, intrapsychic dynamics, and life support and management issues.

 

Qualifications:

 

  A.  Knowledge

 

     a.  Demonstrated understanding of infant, early childhood, and adult mental health, as well as family systems

     b.  Demonstrated understanding of differences in mental health services and concepts across cultures

     c.  Demonstrated knowledge of child and adult mental health services systems

     d   Demonstrated experience with clinical documentation

     e.  Experience formulating and writing assessments and support plans

 

  B.  Skills

     a.   Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with service providers and families

     b.   Partner with providers as a member of a diverse team

     c.   Conduct standardized screens and assessments

     d.  Use results of screens and assessments to guide work with families, set goals, and develop individualized plans

     e.  Refer providers and families to appropriate community services

     f.  Provide evidence-based interventions

     g.  Communicate effectively with diverse groups both verbally and in writing

     h.  Organize tasks and manage time effectively

 

  C.  Education and Training

     a. Bachelor or Master of social work degree, together with licensure

     b. Clinical licensure highly desirable

     c. Bilingual/bicultural English-Spanish preferred

 

   D. Other Requirements

      a. Maintain valid Kansas driver’s license

      b. Maintain first aid and CPR certification

      c. Maintain compliance with Criminal History Registry
