Communication, organization, and relationship-building are at the heart of this role, as you act as a bridge between The Teacher Apprentice Program, the College of Applied Studies & the Office of Online and Adult Learning.
Communication, much of the time, happens through digital means only, which means we need effectiveness without sacrificing thoroughness. Disseminate updates or enhancements from the college within the program to the department keeping everyone in sync. Stay organized as you meet with students, present at events, attend meetings with Applied Studies College & train new advisors joining the team. Cultivate relationships with students you support, faculty they interact with, & team/dept members involved in the programs. Nurturing these relationships for goals to continually be obtained & being an advocate is an important aspect. Higher Education is a world all of its own, having experience with it or student advising within in is important to be able to hit the ground running in this position. Summary of Responsibilities 
Coordinates student advising services and activities for a college. Advises students concerning their academic plans, progress, and academic and career goals in order to assist students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements.


Essential Functions 

  1. Provides program coordination and developmental advising for a variety of fields which includes acting as a liaison with other schools and may facilitate letters of recommendation for applicants.
  2. May assist with planning, implementation, and review of advising center policies, objectives, projects, and procedures.
  3. Serves as a resource person to faculty and staff with regard to all academic policies, procedures, and regulations.
  4. Conducts seminars, workshops or orientation sessions for students on academic, career and personal success strategies and other group activities.
  5. May analyze data to determine achievement with assigned goals and compliance with rules and regulations.

Minimum Education 
Bachelors degree in related field by hire date
 

Minimum Experience 
Three (3) years of experience in academic advising or related field
 

Preferred Experience 
Higher education advising knowledge.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  1. Effective and efficient written and oral communication skills, especially digital correspondence.
  2. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  3. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals and teams.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to student advocacy including academic and personal goals as well as troubleshooting students issues and obstacles to success.
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, with emphasis in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  7. Comfortable with public speaking.
  8. Understanding of higher education student advising, processes, requirements and student populations.

Salary Information

Range beginning $45,000/yr, adjusted based on qualifications
