ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Intervention / Identification:

Participates on Student Improvement Teams as requested by districts.

Participates in local or district wide-screenings as requested by the district or the Interlocal.

Conducts / participates in the comprehensive evaluation / reevaluation of students as required.

Develops or participates in the development of the Individual Education Program (IEP) for newly identified and continuing students.

Case manager of students who receive only OT services.

Responsible for scheduling IEP meetings at a time that considers the schedules of parent and building principal.

Conducts the annual IEP meeting for speech, OT, or PT students only.

Regular communication with other educators to determine students’ continuing needs.

Promotes a continuum of services for each student which includes transitional needs.

From data collected, writes evaluation/eligibility report of findings and completes all paperwork as required by the Interlocal.

Instructional delivery:

Develops, adapts, and implements instructional plan which focuses upon the individual needs of students as stated on the IEP.

Communicates measurable learning outcomes.

Uses instructional media/materials which relate specifically to individual goals and objectives.

Uses instructional techniques which relate specifically to individual goals and objectives.

Develops lesson plans for teacher and Para Educator/s which outlines the objective, activity, and materials needed for each lesson.

Evaluation of student progress:

Objectives/benchmarks updated each nine weeks which reflects data collected on student’s progress in meeting objectives.  Parents notified through copies of updates.

Continual assessment of student’s progress in meeting objectives through formal or informal oral and written measurements.

Annual assessment to determine student’s present needs in developing annual IEP.  Teacher determines type of evaluation needed, such as curriculum based of criterion-referenced.

Documentation on file of student performance and progress.

Classroom management:

Clearly and plainly communicates expectations for student behavior.

Assures that physical condition of classroom is conducive to student learning.

Makes continuous use of direct measurement procedures to weekly monitor each student’s progress toward learning outcomes.

Supervises Para Educator/s

Communication:

Consistent communication with parents, students, and staffs to determine educational and transitional needs of students.

Communicates instructional interventions and strategies.

Ability to manage all job functions with mobility, agility, dexterity, and focused observation to meet job standards of performance.

Meets the service and documentation requirements set forth in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Kansas State Regulations for Special Education.

When assigned to more than one district, travels to assigned districts to perform all duties as required of Itinerant Teacher.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:                        

Others may be assigned

Attends staff meetings scheduled by local school district or Interlocal.

Recess, lunch duty, daily lunch count, bus supervision and other building responsibilities as required by local school district.

Supervises and/or escorts students to special classes/work sites as needed.

Attends programs and events related to school.

Attends staff development activities as required by the Director.

Salary Information

Salary based on degree level/college hours and years experience. Base salary is currently $40,500 for a first year teacher with no experience. Additional supplemental contract for Itinerants.

Districts served are USD 359, Argonia; USD 357, Belle Plaine; USD 360 Caldwell; USD 358, Oxford; and USD 509 South Haven.
