REPORTS TO:  DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

JOB GOAL:  To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by identification of educational needs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices.
  2. Administers tests and determines eligibility for all exceptional and new students.
  3. Helps identify within the school all types of exceptional children.
  4. Develops case records on all referred students.
  5. Recommends corrective procedures.
  6. Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for children whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification or counseling.
  7. Confers with teachers and parents.
  8. Consults on special educational needs of children.
  9. Attends case conferences on placement of individual students.
  10. Interprets the school psychological services to teachers and parents.
  11. Prepares and submits required reports.
  12. Cooperates with personnel of community mental health and social welfare agencies and juvenile court.
  13. Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings.
  14. Conducts appropriate literature review and assists with program evaluation.
  15. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education.

EVALUATION:   Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
