Atchison Public Schools is accepting applications for District 12-month Food Service Secretary/Substitute Coordinator. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file (after employment offer is made).
  • Experience as a secretary- with customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated typing and filing skills.
  • Experience in using various computers and computer programs.
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
  • Requires use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
  • Must be able to work in noisy and crowed environments- with numerous interruptions.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and courteously.

 

General Functions:

  • Help supervise and coordinate the school’s food service to provide nutritious meals and safeguard the health of students- staff and visitors.
  • Coordinate daily substitute teacher assignments for each building by making arrangements for substitute workers from the approved list of substitutes to fill in for regular staff members when they are absent.
  • Provide office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the district.
  • Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner- meeting deadlines as assigned.
  • Operates all computer equipment appropriately as required.
  • Work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  • Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Respond to information request in a cooperative- courteous and timely manner.
  • Keep personnel information and records confidential.
  • Implement and follow all District health and safety policies.
  • Maintain integrity and accountability of the Child Nutrition program (CNP) through compliance with all federal- state and local laws- regulations and policies.
  • Provide effective office organization and good paper management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with federal- state and local laws and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor and other employees.
  • Obtain- gather- and organize data as necessary. 
  • Collect- report- and deposit money received- at the BOE- for food services.
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing- and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
  • Input payable requisitions in E-Req Management System. 
  • Duplicate and assemble lunch program forms- etc.
  • Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments- with numerous interruptions.
  • Receive all telephone calls for food service department- respond appropriately to requests for information- take messages as needed for food service personnel and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Keep accurate and timely records for the sponsor and KSDE.
  • Ensure all activities conform to District- community and KSDE guidelines.
  • Handle all correspondence as may be necessary for operation of food service responsibilities.
  • Process requisitions for purchase orders- maintain accounting responsibilities for payment of bills and ordering.
  • Maintain inventory records as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain a regular filing system for all incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Maintain a schedule of appointments and make arrangements for conferences and other meetings for the director.
  • Work with the director in carrying out day-to-day operations necessary for an effective operation.
  • Accurately complete required state food service reports.
  • Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement- as appropriate.  Excessive absences or tardiness- unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Food Service or Superintendent of Schools. 
  • Take instruction from supervisors or other persons of authority.
