Special Education Instructional Coach for 2024-25

Purpose:                       The Instructional Coach will collaborate with special education teachers to facilitate the instructional program.  The Instructional Coach will work directly with teachers modeling classroom-based strategies, providing collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating special education related compliance training and support.
 
Responsible to:             Executive Directors of Elementary/Secondary Education and Director of Special Services
 
Payment rate:                According to negotiated agreement with extended contract
 
Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university.
  2. Current Kansas State Teaching Licensure with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Central Office.
  3. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  4. 5 years of experience as a SPED classroom instructor preferred

                                                                                                                                      
Essential Functions:

  1. Facilitate the continued growth of FHSEC staff through the provision of feedback, coaching, and technical assistance.
  2. Work in classrooms to provide sustained, job-embedded support by observing, modeling, co-teaching, mentoring, providing feedback, identifying resources, and problem-solving with teachers.
  3. Serve as a mentor for new SPED teachers with ongoing meetings, dialogue, support, and training.
  4. Train and work with special education staff to apply research-based strategies and best practices for providing services to students.
  5. Provide information regarding FHSEC priorities and expectations to staff and respond to their questions and concerns in order to maximize their effectiveness in the provision of special education services.
  6. Organize assessment processes used to determine student performance; assist with grouping appropriate to the instructional process; communicate the analysis of data to administration and staff. 
  7. Respond to questions and provide information on special education services as needed for administrators, general education teachers, special education teachers, parents, local districts, and the general public.
  8. Consult with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students; provide appropriate support as necessary.
  9. Consult with regular education and special education teachers in the monitoring of student progress and assist in the making of informed, timely educational decisions relative to individual students through the RTI intervention process.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Must work periodically in noisy and crowded environments.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in determining the eligibility of students for special education services, and assist in determining that an appropriate and thorough evaluation has been completed.
  2. Assist in the awareness and compliance of ADA and Section 504 requirements.
  3. Assist in the implementation of staff development and support of state/local standards.
  4. Adhere to service guidelines as defined by the Kansas State Plan for Special Education, State Rules and Regulations governing Special Education, and district policies.
  5. Collaborate with administration on a regular basis in a team approach to monitor the implementation of instructional strategies appropriate to support students with learning disabilities.  
  6. Provide/facilitate targeted and on-going staff development activities to include summer training.
  7. Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication.
  8. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
    • Acceptable use of technology
    • Sexual harassment
    • Racial and disability harassment
    • Child abuse reporting
    • Bullying
  9. Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  10. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curricular modifications/classroom strategies.
  11. Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating respect of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
  12. Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; timely submission of required reports; participate in staff, department, and committee/team meetings; contribute to SIT/IEP activities.
  13. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  14. Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the principal.
  15. Respond to change in a productive manner.
  16. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
  17. Other duties as assigned by the principal, or other building or district administration.
