District Technology Specialist
Job Description

 

Position Purpose: The District Technology Specialist is a member of the Technology Department and works to provide in-depth technical support to assess issues and provide solutions to enhance student learning with technology.   This position will also maintain a collaborative working relationship between the Technology department and district staff to ensure that issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner. 

 

Reports To: Director of Technology Services

 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt-Hourly 

 

Salary: $15.00 per hour- 12-month position  

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s Degree or higher in Technology or IT Certification(s)
  • High level of competence with software systems- and all applicable devices. Software system knowledge includes the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with a high level of competency in writing- grammar-   and sentence structure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Candidate must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators and staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Valid drivers license 
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of technology/IT support experience or relevant experience 
  • Training or certification in audition/visual systems 

Travel: 

  • Up to 50% in district travel between buildings

Essential Functions: To execute this job successfully- an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Serves as District-Wide point of contact and liaison for support issues related to student and staff devices to include but not limited to:
    • Windows PC
    • Apple Devices
    • Management of device application distribution systems
    • Student issued devices
    • Smart Board
    • Other devices- as assigned by administration 
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance on district technology devices- including system/software updates
  • Performs hardware repair on district technology devices
  • Works closely with the technology department to resolve technology issues and concerns promptly
  • Assists in setting up- preparing- and supporting technology that is being utilized for district training  events
  • Maintaining accurate Technology inventory utilizing the district`s digital inventory control system
  • Supports the district`s networked devices utilizing the district`s digital management systems
  • Promote the use of technology as an instructional tool for learning- including the assessment of student achievement  
  • Displays good public relations and customer service skills with staff- students- and patrons 
  • Works well with others in a positive and collaborative environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work

 General Responsibilities: 

  • Supports and services a backup contact for districts digital safety/security systems- software- and  hardware
  • Supports and services as backup contact for district digital database systems and digital database  operations
  • Occasionally provides individual and small group instruction under the direction of the teacher- adhering to the lesson plan provided by a teacher 
  • Performs software evaluations as requested to ensure compliance with district operating environments 
  • Effectively presents information to administrators- staff- and parents

  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels- outdoors- and on the telephone
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms- outdoors- and on the telephone

Terms of Employment: At-will employment. 2-000-hour 12-month position.

Evaluation: Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board’s policy and the Classified Employee Handbook.

The Fort Leavenworth School District has been a part of the educational system of the State of Kansas since 1901.  Geographically, it is composed entirely of federal property and includes Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and the U. S. Federal Penitentiary.  The buildings, which belong to the school district, are located on land leased from the federal government.  We are a Kansas Public School System.  We do not have any connection with the Department of Defense Dependent School System.  The district provides instruction for grades K - 9 in addition to half day preschool for 4 year olds meeting current residency requirements.    The post schools operate under the provisions of Kansas State Law, applicable federal laws, and regulations of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

District facilities consist of four schools, and one central administration building.  The district also has a warehouse and transportation center.  All schools in the district have been extensively renovated and all life safety features upgraded.  All schools have at least the following:  auditorium, gymnasium, full service kitchen, cafeteria, technology classrooms, two computer labs, separate art and music rooms and a full service library media center.  All schools are maintained in excellent condition.
